I've just secured an effectively NOS DL-103 LC II cartridge to go on while I rebody my standard 103. Has anyone got any experience of the LC II?

There isn't a lot on the web about it; it'll be interesting to see the difference though.

My bet is it will be superb. Let's face it, the stock 103 is a gorgeous cartridge and the variants are usually a significant improvement, I love the 103 and I admire Denon for not taking the piss on prices.

I'm very happy with my stock 103 but as per usual I need to tinker. I got it on a bit of a deal when eBay last did a 30% off voucher code, so I'll rebody it and see where we are from there. The question is, wood or aluminium?

My only experience was a nude 103 with aluminium body. Sadly one of the coils failed and it went off on one channel. Such a disappointment but the 103R was equally good with no risk of damage.

Well, I got some info from the States; it is of similar spec to the 103R so I may have hooked myself a winner.

When I get another turntable, a 103R will be my first choice. I do like the more expensive ATs but the 103R is just more "human" and it's silly cheap.

Considering the Denon 103 was developed in the 1960's specifically for the narrow telephone (mid band) broadcasting range, do you 103 fans and users really get full extension in bass and treble? I have always been sceptical, but it is hard to ignore the long life popularity, so I would appreciate some feedback on this. To put it in context, I happily am using an Ortofon Kontrapunct B.

I have a DL-103 with a difference. It has been rebodied into an Audio-Techne brass body. It has a boron cantilever and a Shiabata tip.
It sounds superb, and is certainly not frequency limited.

Not sure, but I found the damped body of the 103R to be at least as good as a nude 103 with aluminium mounting plate. I've watched videos of removing the body but it looks too risky for me.

I'm not sure about comaprisons to that particular Ortofon but the 103R was in the same league as the OC9s, And AT 32/33s I've owned, albeit a bit more "relaxed " in its sound.

In and playing. I'm very happy with thevDL103 LC-II, it seemscto reach into the music and drag just a little bit more out, especially in the bass department. I'll have to adjust the sub to suit the new characteristics. Voice is extremely pleasant too, it'll be interesting how the nude 103 sounds in comparison.

I'll be interested to hear your thoughts. I reckon the LC II will hold its own if it's like the 103R..
