Im looking for fresh Issues of YES albums but as always im in the dark where Re-issues are concerned. Anyone got any of these & what are they like ? Sleeve construction & Labels that replicate the originals are an important factor..
YES [ Music On Vinyl, Not happy its a twin Vinyl edition but i see nothing else] Time & A Word [Music On Vinyl] The Yes Album [Rhino, Is this a Gate fold?] Fragile [Rhino] Close To The Edge [Rhino, Is This a Gate fold?] Tales From Topographic Oceans [Rhino] Relayer [Cannot find a Rhino Edition. The new Rhino Fragile and Drama are analogue. So is the Rhino (Europe) Close To The Edge which is Gatefold. Tales From Topographic Oceans is a digital source. Not sure about Yes Album (thought that was a Friday Music). Anything on MOV will be from digital.

even if sourced from a tape which will be a copy or back up tape never the original mastertape they will use a digital pre-view head not analogue on the cutting heads Neumann , Sculley & Ortofon analogue cutting lathes only a tiny amount of them left now

Indeed I see more and more standard issues that come from some of the better Known all analogue cutting locations whether analogue or digital recordings. Now they are building new presses I imagine someone will produce a new lathe in the near future.

The cost of a new lathe like a neumann VMS would be well into 6 figures these days & market would not warrant investment & good used ones are £50k these days before restoration , most are ground up restored these days this ortofon/lyrec new cost £12,000 in 1958

KG is Kevin Gray - his cut for RHCPs "Stadium Arcadium" is excellent, far far better sounding than any of the digital releases. His cut for Mahavishnu Orchestra's "Birds Of Fire" is also excellent. Who is CB?
