Has anyone come across the DirectStream Memory Player or heard a demo yet? Although my Ayre C-5xe MP player is very accomplished, this new player has definitely piqued my interest.

I'm going to try borrowing one at some future time. Reading more about it, I realise it's a transport and requires their DAC for full I2S implementation.

could get better results ripping discs to a melco hard drive & then into a dac if you want to play from memory use a melco myself into music server/ripper/dac find they all just play the numbers game these days & will be scrap in 12months times anyway & they all use the same chipsets only a few you can count on one hand use custom FPGA

Not scrap for me, Scott. I aim to keep building the CD collection, from charity shops if need be. My disc player is going to be my primary source until the end of my days, I think.

There are none available yet, I have mine on order and sold another one to a client who has the DS DAC. Audio through HDMI intrigues me, PS Audio sent 50 units out to customers in the USA to evaluate, full production commences next month. I have been searching for an Esoteric transport for years but always too expensive and they don't make the transport themselves now anyway.
This ticks all the boxes for me and will be the last transport I will ever own. Been busy buying plenty of SACD's and XRCD's this past month!

If I was even considering paying $91k for a player, it had better play a whole lot more than just SD cards.

Actually some of the best sounds I have managed have been with SD cards, however it does limit your options lol

Clive Possibly something to do with with incredibly low quiescent currents around the SD interface coupled with the location of the actual device in proximity to the CPU. Coupled with a high degree of electromagnetic screening and short data pathways. However the new 960 Evo nvme SSD's are stunning in playback performance especially when used with a memory player

The 950 NVMe SSDs are no slouch (says he, typing on a computer using one).

Could you play a SD card in 20years or buy a SD card ! For sure it's pretty unlikely, rather like floppy disks today though there are some being used for historical or nerdy purposes. The player I use (BugHead) uses SD as part of the playback process. In my setup my music is stored on my 960GB SSD, it gets copied onto an SLC type SD card and then into memory. Heaven knows how this de-jitters the files, you'd have thought SSD would be as good, but it's not.
