I think the cable into the AG500 is the place to put the best mains cable you can also worth seeing if it responds to good isolation too Just acquired a mains cable for the AG500 - got another Wireworld cable, as was pleased with the one I bought for the phono stage. This one isn't as exotic as don't have the budget but will see next week how the AG500 responds.

Yesterday I got my Consonance CD-120L back from repair - turned out all that it needed was a new £2 ribbon ...
So I'll do a mini bake-off week with my Shanling - winner gets to stay on the rack.

That should be interesting. Tricky to predict, although my money would be on the Consonance.

That's what the engineer said Martin!
He enjoyed it with and without an external DAC ...

Did a very simple comparison of the cd players and am most surprised.
I cannot hear any significant difference between them despite them having different design!

No big changes to the system but now running a pair of Klotz MC5000 with MS Audio silver plugs for my vinyl playback. No complaints at all so far, system sounding magnificent this morning!

I like the Klotz wires, but if brand new they need some hours under them - I don't know why - but in comparison with an existing Mark Grand HD1500 set I also have, they were different when the Klotz was new but a few months later they sounded all but identical... I do mine the NVA way, using the two inner cores and screens disconnected and isolated both ends. Not everyone agrees with this but it works ok for me. I use the Klotz cables in the non-NVA systems.

Just received my new custom made stands for my Tannoys. They are so beautifully finished, the oak wood grain is gorgeous. Here's just a quick snap to give you an idea but doesn't remotely do the quality justice. The idea is that these will raise the Tannoy tweeters to ear height. Hopefully I will get to set them up over the next couple of days. Got some sand standing by to fill the centre columns. The bottom of the stands have threads for the supplied spikes. If anyone would like contact details for the seller feel free to pm me.

Nice. Have to confess I really like the look of dark wood with that grain Will bring more dark Ladderax and Beaver and Tapley into the listening room sooner or later Might sound almost as good as black

They look great, Jules.
Experiment with both spikes and decoupling to see what works best for you.

Just picked up a pair of Superlux HD668B, in near mint condition for 20 quid.
Plugged them straight into my macmini, played some YouTube material and OMG these cans are good - just stupid, stupid value for money. I wouldn't have been disappointed had I paid 50 or more!

I've been saying...
Take the foam/diaphragm thingy out of the earpieces and they sound better still.
