I have read that these are smooth sounding, which is something I hanker for. Does anyone have one and recommend it? Does any one else have an opinion about them please?

Nice players, even better when you bypass the output stage & replace it with a RC filter.
A while back some AoS members did just that on my recommendation, it isn't a subtle difference...
"If you or anyone you know is reasonably adept with DIY then you could ask them to locate the DAC's analogue outputs (pin 2 & 26) & from there wire a 51ohm resistor in series followed by an 0.01uF cap (to ground) and from there wire straight to your RCA output sockets."
...why, you may ask? Well, the DAC already has an excellent output stage built into it.

The CD player has arrived and connected to my Boyuu feeding Dentons it sounds the best I have ever heard CD sound. I am over the moon with it.
