A question I ask myself every so often when given the choice EG Neil Cowley - Live at Montreux 2012
I would play the CD on my Rega Isis and it would sound good
The DVD would go through my cheap and cheerful Toshiba DVD, but I find my attention wandering when *watching* a performance.
Most of the DVDs I have barely get watched

CD would always win for me. I have a very good James Taylor in concert on DVD which as a performance is excellent but like you I find I get more distracted when watching.

Me too. I nearly always select the audio CD on account of a) it sounds better and b) I don't always want the visual distraction.
Sometimes it's good to watch the video just to see the performance technique, or just to ogle (like I did with Orianthi the other night).

Generally me too. Wondered if I was the odd one out
Occasionally there are some superb pieces of playing that are gems. Ry Cooder in Chicken skin tour days was awesome. Some are so poorly made they are not worth watching

Jeff Beck 'Crossroads' DVD came with my CD of Emotion and Commotion. Now that's worth watching!

Sometimes it's good to watch the video just to see the performance technique. Yes I have Eric Clapton - Unplugged and it is quite incredible watching him play!

Whilst I do have some live CDs and records, I tend to prefer visuals with live stuff, quality aside.

It do,like watching the occasional music DVD but I also prefer to have music without visual distraction. I rarely bother with TV nowadays, but even then I tend to listen accompanied by the occasional glance, I guess I'm more auditory than visual.

Sound usually does a lot more for me than visuals. Used to listen to the radio and music before I had a TV. If I hadn't been strong armed into having a free TV I may never have got one

I bought The Band's Last Waltz, still haven't watched it. Bought the Woodstock 4 DVD set, still haven't watched it. The next one I shall buy and not watch is Albert Lee's 70th Birthday Celebration. I did buy the double DVD set of Spinal Tap though and you really can't not watch that.

I've only ever actively sought out about three music videos. However, I bought a copy of The Last Waltz the other day - charity shop find. Haven't watched it yet either! (Though I saw it many years ago).

I also find I can listen to a CD over and over, but only watch a DVD 2 or 3 times. Never seem to go back to it either....
