This is where members can recommend good record shops, both online and high street. In these days of dwindling numbers, knowledge is power!

Ben's Collectors Records, Guildford
Nice shop with a friendly atmosphere, packed with vinyl and a centre section of CDs, although the latter are not sorted. Good in-depth selection of rock and pop.

My first tip is for Red Lick Records in Cardiff, which is a superb resource for fans of blues. Their knowledge, enthusiasm and wide range of stock is utterly unparalleled in my experience. They actually say that they are there for "....blues related music -including r&b, soul, gospel, doowop, zydeco, cajun, rock n roll, rockabilly, jazz, folk, country, old timey, cajun, hawaiian & more". They have a bi-monthly 40 page catalogue which is downloadable or they'll send you a copy. Order online, by phone or post. Red Lick Records

For online, I mostly divide my time between the following: Bleep - contemporary electronic, affiliated with Warp Records (digital and physical) Boomkat - contemporary electronic (digital and physical) Infinite Limits - underground and experimental (physical only) Norman Records - everything else (physical only) Despite living in London, I don't feel very spoilt for choice for decent record shops. I was in Manchester a couple of weeks ago though, and had a great time in Piccadilly Records.

Snow Records, Japan
Large range, well classified and condition stated. I have used them and they are very good. Don't be put off by their location, they ship worldwide and delivery is fast. Order small amounts, though, otherwise you may get hit for import tax.

Action Records in Preston. Big selection of new and secondhand including a lot of vinyl - it's down on your knees for used vinyl though! Great staff, both knowledgeable and helpful. Owner, Gordon is so into it, that they have their own record label (The Fall, Mark E. Smith, Boo Radleys etc) and gigs in the shop! Action Records

I second that! .....and the cheapest source of anti-static record sleeves I know!

What a gem! I've not seen a store that had a dedicated anime section - excellent! Also some interesting looking things in their 'documentary' section - might get myself some birds...

Whenever I go to see mum in Manchester, I always take a walk to Sifters. www.sifters-records-manchester.co.uk/It's been there for ever and still going strong. The pricing is way below anything on ebay. Grading is on the enthusiastic side so I always check the vinyl before buying. The classical section is my favourite and generally pay about £1.50 for a 40 year old lp that hasn't probably been played - they are mostly in mint condition.

Snow Records Order placed for about 30 LP's! Cannot help myself once I add the first one to the basket!

If you look closely at the picture of the tower block that Chris linked into in Ladbroke Grove you can see that it has been designed as a early computer drawing of a dog Only 5 mins walk from where I work

In terms of buying vinyl albums, I buy a lots from here - www.ebay.co.uk/usr/all_your_music?_trksid=p2060353.m2749.l2754The albums ship from the USA, so as long as you don't mind getting the US versions instead of the UK/Europe, then I find this shop much cheaper than the UK. Orders generally take a week to 10 days to arrive and are well-packaged etc. Free postage too.

Vintage Vinyl, Morecambe.Found a new (to me) record shop today. We don't go to Morecambe much but if you are ever nearby, you should make a beeline for Vintage Vinyl. Lots of good stuff at mostly good prices and everything graded on the price tag. Best of all, there's 25% off everything until September the 10th. A small selection of used hifi gear too!

With my vinyl interest well and truly ignited, a couple of recent London/SE pointers from me: 101Records Centrale Croydon, Centrale Shopping Centre, N End, Croydon CR0 1TY Croydon used to have the world famous Beano's, but that has long gone and all we have now is 101 Records. Tucked behind the Centrale shopping centre it has loads of vinyl and everything I've bought there thus far has been graded fairly and competitively priced. Music & Video Exchange 38 Notting Hill Gate, London W11 3HX I took a Sunday trip up to W11 recently and found this to have an extensive selection of second-hand vinyl. Some £60+ later, I had three releases, but I did find that they were priced at the top end of what I was able to find online. Pencilled in for next week after a recommendation elsewhere online is a visit to Ben's in Guildford plus another trip into town to Flashback Records, London N1, so I'll report back on the latter I was also hoping to check out the Old Spitalfields Record Fair on Friday, but I wasn't able to attend...

If you go to Berlin this was a great record store. Give me enough time and I'll remember its name! Oh, and I have that Voice of the Beehive!
