I am on 4 x forums and like to think I can help with problems, advise and correct any factual mistakes or misinformation. I have watched this forum for a while because I wanted to make sure it wasn't aggressive and nasty as some are. Life is too short for arguing. I disagree entirely (cont'd p.94). I like to think I can lower the tension by quoting from the collected works of the mighty Half Man Half Biscuit: They do two sets, Then take requests 'Play one the drummer knows!'

I never cease to be amazed by the huge spectrum of characters on hi-fi forums; from absolute gentlefolk to the egotistical self obsessed tools that turn up every now and then.
I wouldn't have it any other way; it's quite therapeutic to see them get in a lather when things aren't going their way!

Yeah, there's an old (banned) name that has just turned up on WHF after a few years - let's see how long this fuse is....

Thanks for making me laugh out loud this morning Myles! No worries Chris; it seems that the object of my desire has caught up with my comment. I'm not allowed to play in his sand pit any more!

Ah, I didn't realise you meant one person in particular, much less someone who owns a 'sandpit'.

Ah, I didn't realise you meant one person in particular, much less someone who owns a 'sandpit'. I was really aiming at people in general, but one in particular considers owning a sandpit sets him apart from the general population. Sand isn't that great a commodity, unfortunately.

Yes, we await your reaction with interest Martin. The phrase 'unwanted baggage' comes to mind.

Oh don't worry Barry, I've reacted already. Also note the subject of this thread.

I thought I had replied to this but clearly didn't doh!
So my thoughts are that I like talking to people who have similar interests to me, to be fair my 'normal' friends (no insult intended) don't have any interest in Hifi and whenever I discuss anything with them they usually quickly switch off so it is nice to have the opportunity to discuss openly.
I frequent a few of the hifi forums but to be honest, this one is so far the most friendly and accepting, some of the others I struggle with the personalities and behaviors of those individuals either running or posting on them... the keyboard warrior syndrome comes to mind.
Additionally, I like the social side of forums, the opportunity to discuss things outside of the Hifi norm, but just an opportunity sound off or share ideas with different walks of life.
My knowledge of Hifi as a subject is minuscule in comparison to a lot of those on this and other forums and I likely say a lot of stupid things for those who understand better but I particularly like the fact that on this forum I never feel like I am being judged.

I'm a bit of a hifi forum nomad at present.. all I want is to ask questions and learn, to be able to speak my mind without being bullied or laughed at and to have my opinion respected, even if doesn't match fellow members opinions or conventional wisdom. Apart from the occasional blinkered and tedious comments in other threads from the usual names with well known (and well worn) history on certain products & individuals, this forum is the closest I've found to my hifi forum utopia.. and that's from somebody who ran & administered his own (albeit non hifi) forum for 17 years

Thanks for the comments, chaps. Those who do run other forums may appreciate that they don't run themselves, but the trick is to moderate with a light touch and leave members to express their own opinions in their own way. I'll be the first to admit that we don't always get it right, but in the main we try to allow the conversations to flow and not assert our egos into the proceedings.

I personally find wigwam rather unrealistic and non educational. The admin, mods and some of the members on there have very little understanding, and do also lack a good degree of logic. What tenacious fools!! TAS, PFM, HFS and even AOS are good enough sites. They each even have their own individual flavors too. TAS has a nice sweet blueberry taste S.

AoS is a little too Orwellian for my liking. Everyone goes around oblivious - no, ignorant of the thought police controlling the state under the guise of an 'illustrious leader' and his small collection of hand - puppets.

It seems you want to indulge in some of that 'therapy' you referred to earlier, Myles. Let's not turn this thread into a one sided bun-fight please.

Not at all Chris. This thread is about what is so right and wrong regarding hifi forums specifically. I am just citing that forum as an example of how this subject can create characters who can add to or take away from a forum's worth. Forums as a whole teeter on the edge of descending into a 'last days of Rome' scenario; some are managed in a way where free speech is encouraged - not to the detriment of common sense - and others are mega-moderated and ruled with an iron fist by people who think 'owning' a tiny plot of land in internetland makes them somehow important . I've seen it on motoring forums too; someone who has had the money to have a 20k engine fitted seems to think it makes them.an expert and more worryingly a cut above. Hifi and the listening experience is such a subjective topic; I do object to being told how my ears are processing the reverberations of air from my speakers.
Sorry, I rambled a bit.....
