listening to 'Dark Side' from start to finish for the first time in years on me latest 'speakers (Spendor S8s ) and i'm enjoying every minute ( dare i say it's not the best recorded album in the world ?) but musically it is head and shoulders above the crap that passes for music these days

There was a great version of it from the original tour on BBC6.
I saw it live at Wembley. Staggeringly good

It's worth downloading the Alan Parsons mix and burning to DVD-A or streaming. Quite different sounding. Otherwise, the EMI SACD sounds best.

It's probably a bit obvious and clichéd these days, but I really do love Dark Side.....on any format or pressing.

As a huge Floyd fan it pains me to say that this album was under-appreciated by me for ages, simply because it was too popular and I wanted to be a bit of an elitist, which is another way of saying I had my head too far up my own arse when I was (much) younger. I mean, people who had never bought a Pink Floyd album in their lives were purchasing it at Woolworth's. Like, Floyd were selling out man. I've since been able to appreciate why it was so popular; because it's a bloody good album by a terrific band.

I was spoiled from an early age. I regularly used DSOTM from a Dolby A master-copy for dems, so all vinyl auditions are a pale shadow to these early memories of it. It's my view that it MUST be heard on BIG speakers. Any 2CU boxes which are now regarded as 'big' and anything smaller than this, just cannot do it full justice IMO. For me, this album DEMANDS huge JBL's, 15" Tannoys and IMF TL's and descendants using B139's at least for bass

I no longer have a copy of AHM , its years since I heard it I'll Spotty it and maybe re-purchase. Get hold of the classic version they did for the BBC. May have been a Top Gear programme Think it is on YouTube and if not it is somewhere I would have to dig to find

In the days when you went in a Record shop and asked to hear a record in a private booth before purchasing , my mate and I went into Rushworths and asked to hear DSOTM , now this was a Saturday afternoon and the sales staff were told to say you could listen only if you were buying because of all the kids wasting their time. Of course the reply should have been "how do I know if I want it if I haven't heard it" but that wouldn't get you anywhere , so the opening track with the heart beat begins and my mate goes "what is this S**t , your not buying this are you ?" I didn't have much money to spend so I wasn't going to waste it , the listening booths were past the sales desk and the store was in a basement , I went to the desk and said can you put the other side on whilst my mate was on his hands and knees crawling towards the stairs , when the guy turned to flip the disc we legged it . Seems so lame these days . PS I bought it a couple of weeks later.
