Go to use my CD player today and it's just not playing the game. The drawer keeps opening with or without a disc in it. I'm going to open it up and have a look and I'm hoping for pointers. What should I be looking for?

Hi Chris
I had this problem and it turned out to be the drawer belts that needed replacing...

You can do a temporary fix for this if it is the belt. Just turn the belt inside out. There is a more advanced procedure to that, which could make the belt last for a lot longer, but I am not good in explaining it. The hard bit is that most of the replacement belts are of far lower tensile strength than the original. So the problem will appear again in next to no time.

Cheers gents - much appreciated.
My plan was to open it,clear any dust with a small paint brush, spray it with electrical cleaner, then clean up with cotton buds. That belt thing sounds handy so I will do that as well.

You're all wrong. Chris, take the Kylie CD out of the drawer and put it in the bin. Your CD player is trying to tell you something!
....great little tip there Stan.

I'm giving up on this,I'm going to end up breaking it worse! Access to the belt is tricky and I don't have the slightest idea what I'm doing.

Faffed about a bit more got the belt off and cleaned it. Spun it round on itself then put it back on. Seems just the same as it was.

That's as far as I go - if I'm feeling adventurous. Time for a Pro

Trouble is, a pro may charge more than the player's worth.

Ok a Pro's *opinion* then decision time
If curtains for this one you can't go wrong with a Pioneer PD-S703 or similar stable platter
