I'm rethinking how to do this. Albums are well over 3000 now. Can't say exactly how many due to the LP / CD duplication I still find and discover new to me music and follow rabbits down holes, to the point of sampling albums by Ebay sellers that have some other good albums. Recently bought a Don Air album as I was investigating AIR. I've been told I "can't listen to all of it". It's worse than that. There are some albums I just love to hear again and again so how do I fit it all in ? My rating system out of 10 helps. I shall sell or not listen to the 5/10 and focus on the 8s, 9s and 10s. It's a great 'problem' to have. Listening to music virtually all day and still loving the experience. What do all you other music junkies do ? (I can give it up at any time)

I usually have big clear outs If I thought I had very little chance of listening to the album I would get rid of it. Usually a 5 at least for me to keep when I am going through a deep cull

I might when I look hard at all the so so albums I have. Using the thought that they are taking time I could use on higher up albums

I haven't got rid of anything (although I should rethink as I still have Rufus Wainwright and Joanna Newson in my collection, and they would be best in the tip).
I will continue to buy CDs of music that I like, and use Spotify for assessment. It works for me.

I once had a clear out of recordings I thought I would never want to play again and almost immediately began to regret doing so with loads of them. Now, I have to really dislike something before I let it go. I often go back later to play things I'm indifferent to and begin to enjoy them better.

I had some awful stuff in the past like Screaming Lord Sutch and Heavy friends and stuff so obscure I am not sure even if Andre would of heard of them I used to have a big obscure AOR section of albums but what was the point of keeping them when I no longer could listen to them

I wouldn't ever get rid of any of my albums again, however bad I think they may be. When I converted to CD from LP those many years ago, I only replaced the ones I liked at the time, but in later years (musical tastes change maybe?) regretted it.

I have albums that I know I will likely never listen to again, including a few which I cannot name on here or you will all likely chastise me somewhat …. however, I cannot bring myself to sell or bin them… probably should as my downstairs cupboard where all of the CDs are kept is getting close to maximum.

LPs are an appreciating asset of course, some a lot more than others. A lot of CDs I bought for 1p and not much more. Unless I was lucky they are worth less now
Quality of life is probably what I'm going on about. Some albums really lift you up, or give other good emmotions Rather have that than be bored with a so so

I'm with MartinT here : I use Tidal hifi or Spotify then give it a couple of months. If it's something I really like then I buy the CD. Last one was Awolnation.

I have, and the bloody things are still in my collection. May as well use them as coasters.

'Course as we now it's not black and white. I rate albums out of 10. Currently 5 is marginal to keep.
If I take the top end, 8-10 that is still well over 1000 albums.
When I only had around 800 LPs I used to go through them and rediscover gems and duds, with the odd diversion or 3 With what I have now that's a long old process and I'm impatient with the less good. Terribly disappointing Dusty album today. MOR with a vengeance

Terribly disappointing Dusty album today. MOR with a vengeance I generally give 2 markings for albums, one for technical ability and credibility and the second for whether I actually like the album's tunes. To be honest though, I still find myself spending the majority of my time listening to a select few albums which are my favourites. Although I have been discovering some gems recently which I had written off previously (probably through impatience) such as 'Peter Gabriel - Up' and 'Joe Bonamassa - Dust Bowl' which are both excellent.

I hereby give notice that I'm never ever going to reappraise Rufus Wainwright or Joanna Newson ever again. My life is complete without them.

My rating is all round I added quality of recording, mostly for the really great ones I re discover some I had dismissed EG. Fairport Convention, later version
