Yesterday I was discussing the contribution and effect of the individual elements of my system that combine to form the result. I've changed most elements over a few years but the overall character remains. While this is probably the sound of the room, it was an enlightening thought process to follow.
At one time I considered my particular valve Dac essential but having changed amps. speakers and supports I now find it's more like an added spice and the sound is not so dissimilar to the Oppo 103 and it's direct output.
So if you could only take ONE component of your current system as the foundation of a completely new one, which would it be? Based purely on it's sonic contribution, not for cosmetics, financial consideration or emotional attachment.
I'm surprised to say mine would probably be the Vertex Taga distribution block. It's effect on all other elements is fundamental for me. It seems to allow a sense of presence and projection that sets everything free and alive. I feel I could replace every other component to create a different flavour and performance level but still achieve the 'live' presentation that I like.

I'd have to experiment to be sure
Either the P10 or the Isobariks

Not sure perhaps the speakers or turntable both have an emotional connection

I honestly don't know in my case, as I'm a sentimental old hoarder My Spendor BC2's were the first 'proper' speakers I ever sold and it was to a dear friend's Dad from whom I inherited them several years ago. Many of my favourite mid 70's LP's were first heard on these (OK, the have replacement bass units but still) and shabby or not and with extra padding resistors on the tweeters to match the smoother newer bass drivers, they still have a certain something in the mids that all Spendors of this period could do, most appreciated on voice and acoustic instruments even now as I'm older and with a wider taste in music and audio plays... I'm going through hell right now as there's a pair of Harbeth SHL5's coming to replace them - I keep putting it off though as, if the Harbs are totally better as they should be, I don't know what to do with the BC2's... The Dual 701 turntable is sublime and way above Rega level - it gives a smaller version, but in correct proportion, of what a 'real' turntable gives, so I'm happy with that. All the Garrards and other Duals are disposable and probably will be this year.. Amps is tricky as I have so many good ones to choose from. The NVA's sound so good at the volumes I play them at and the Crowns are amazing, even now, despite their age, but the one I'd fight to hold on to as a lot of personal effort went into the preamp upgrades especially, is the lovely Quad 33/303, the preamp now almost as transparent as any modern active preamp and certainly 'seamless' from bass to hf (took a lot, but it's damned good now) and the 303 had been completely rebuilt by someone who cared before it came into my possession.

Probs my Exposure 3 and 4 but I'm also fond of the Copland CD.
The product I have loved the most had to be the Spica TC50i s.e.x. that I owned. I sold them after moving because I couldn't really have free-space speakers without making the room look a mess. Still the best speakers I've ever owned though.

It'd be my AN Ks. Lovely things. I would also toil to part with my AVC amp. The rest can be swapped out at leisure!

MBL speakers. No way they are going anywhere. Not without a fork lift truck or a double hernia

It's got to be the Usher speakers. I could rebuild my system around them.
