I have all my CDs in the wonderful mushroom boxes supplied by Tesco and Sainbury
They are in the order I bought them in - see Mike's Music box for more on that.
With my retirement coming up and of April I have time to reorganise and it is probably time to have then much closer and more sensibly organinsed.
I've bought tall Ikea CD storage for this future. Currently have 6, need, er 20 but don't have the room for 20 unless I build an extension for CDs. My thought is to go alphabetical but I'm wondering about my beloved favourites being in one section and the unloved being readied for sale. The vast majority in the middle.
Main reason is so I can easily investigate certain artists in depth with all their albums one after the other
Ripping ? Well maybe in the distant future

If you're a cheapskate* like me you buy mushrooms cheap in the big boxes. I do like mushrooms.... They take 25 CDs in cases perfectly. This has been fine but now I want to *organise* I thought I'd carry on working for a lot longer, but I don't agree with too much going on at work so I'm off *I know you can't be a cheapskate of course, being from the country in the North of this sceptered isle

I have about 18 IKEA Benno towers, they are great for CD storage. It's a bitch to initially sort them alphabetically (with only two sections: modern and classical), but worthwhile when done. It's rare that I can't find something.

My "problem" is the opposite - I've a wall-full of CDs in strict alphabetical order in IKEA display cabinets and they are now largely superfluous as I do almost all my listening by live streaming. All that wall space that could be used for something more interesting. Currently pondering how to deal with that as I promised the Mrs that I wouldn't get rid of the CDs 'just in case' -- i.e. she doesn't want me to have to buy them all over again if the streaming stopped for some reason. (She's seen me sell and re-buy my LP collection several times )

It's them from Yorkshire who are really tight There are 2 types of box. 1. The weedy ones. You need 3 thick to be sure. One, possibly 2 on top and you can stack 3 high, possibly 4 2. The good ones. Could get away with 1, 2 preferable. One on top again and stack I'm not counting the days at all, April 29th, 8 working weeks, 40 working days, today almost over of course

It's rare that I can't find something. You might remember all my music is on a database. I will keep that for sure but having the CDs themselves in alpha order will be very helpful Caravan for example are in ...... box 1, 8, 9, 11, 12, 15 21, 19, 2228, 30, 37, 38, 57, 64, 73, 100, 101 ! Not easy to get them together My LPs are all alpha and I often like to hear an artist's output all the way through to hear how they developed

In case it's of interest to you, Mike, Here's my IKEA display cabinets - 9 of them set up as 3x3. Pretty much perfect for the job, but I'm not sure the cabinets are available any more.

You've only seen my modern CD collection, Mike. I have the classicals in the Dining Room and Vinyl in the Study. In my next room, I want them all together!
Good surfaces for breaking up room modes.

They are in the order I bought them in - see Mike's Music box for more on that So they're not in any order then ..... Ripping ? Well maybe in the distant future I'd suggest that this is the best way of dealing with a large CD library - rip 'em once, sling 'em in a large box, and lose the box into the loft/garage/cellar/deep hole in the back garden

Ripping will come I guess. A while yet though
