What the title says. Bands and singers who have no earthly connection to the originals but for some reason covered them. Friday On My Mind - Gary Moore. I nearly chose the Bruce Springsteen version of Friday... but he performed it live in Australia and the Easybeats were Australian, so that was a connection. See what I'm getting at? I could also have picked the Bowie version from Pinups, but too many people already know that one, and besides Bowie's wasn't different enough from the original arrangement. We want obscure, or just downright odd and "different" choices if possible. Speaking of odd albeit a bit more well known... Covered many times, but never like The Stranglers covered it. Right. Your turn. Make 'em interesting.

Probably my favourite example of this:
Archie Bell & The Drells - Tighten Up (1968)
Covered in stellar fashion in 1980 by Yellow Magic Orchestra:

Some cracking choices already. Del Amitri are one of my all-time favourite bands, and I'd never seen that clip before.
How about...
David Gilmour & Seal covering Jimi Hendrix
or Hayseed Dixie (I could make a whole thread out their covers) being Bon Jovi?

I saw Del Amitri doing Ace of Spades at the Royal Concert Hall in Nottingham some years ago. It's often still requested at Justin Currie solo gigs.
