Can't say I engage in anything… unusual.
Have to listen with the light on. Have to sit in a central position between the speakers. Have to give what I'm listening to my full attention. Always have the volume control turned down before switching amp on/off. Naturally.

I have a strange ritual that I like to practice but appears to be going out of fashion somewhat: Before I listen to music, I like to go and stand in front of some shelves full of circular historical artifacts. I sometimes bend over into strangely twisted body shapes, squint my eyes and mutter arcane incantations. To conclude the ceremony, I take the chosen one to the altar and offer it to the congregation.
Sometimes, the congreagation says, "No, you played that last week"

I have this crick in my neck as I stand looking sideways at CD and record titles!
Light low or off, sitting centrally in my position, full attention (no distraction from TV, tablet, book or magazine), everything within sight tidy. Room up to temperature (set to 19.5C). Cleanwave at the start of each session. Volume starts at 56, adjust to suit disc. Cushion behind me.
Bliss ensues!

Central seat. Lighting usually dim. Room sometimes tidy, sometimes not. Select music, put PC mouse roller dial in volume control mode. Nearly close the PC laptop lid/screen (streaming source) so the next email to pop up doesn't distract me.
And away I go ....

I do it once a week now. Confess I tiddle around with the TV and Tivo a lot in daytime while listening, but often recline and shut eyes

If I'm having a proper listening session (usually a Friday/Saturday evening) then:
-tidy room -lowish light -central position -pint of tea -joint -tablet/liner notes on hand, in case I want to read about whatever I'm listening to.

Downstairs : no ritual really. Upstairs in my small tune room it has to be tidy,no distractions, low light and a couple of bottles of beer handy. I tend to switch the valves on 5 minutes beforehand as well. Comfy seat in my big recliner and the only distraction that's acceptable is Leroy cat joining me for a listening sesh!
I've been known to put Leonard Cohen on for him.

I'm just glad to get an hour or so listening to the main system every day when herself's out.. The workroom system's huge fun though and is used as a music-reproduction (- and speech, mustn't forget the speech on Doctor Who audio plays...) tool every day.

I've been known to put Leonard Cohen on for him. I think my cat likes SomaFM electronic music played at low levels. I put it on for him when I leave the house He also likes music with female vocals. I don't think he likes very "busy" music a lot, although he doesn't show it.
