Surprised he wasn't knighted to be honest, especially given who they give gongs to nowadays. He was offered a couple of honours apparently - and turned them down In that case I have even more respect for him. What an amazing life he led.

One of the few people on this earth who deserved to be called a genius.
Playing more Bowie today and still feeling numb.

Bowie was a part of my musical life almost as long as rock music itself has been, and until now I always assumed that he wasn't troubled by mere human inconveniences like mortality. R.I.P. David. It seems you were one of us after all.

Watched a few of the (obviously prepared) obit programmes last night but possibly the best memorial was actually from 2013 - 'David Bowie: Five Years' (BBC) It gave a fascinating insight into his development during the 70s/80s using commentary from the man himself as well as some close collaborators from that time (music, screen and stage) Now available on iPlayer and well worth a watch (even if the graphic presentation can be a tad irritating at times) (just found a great mini-review of it here: www.digitalspy.com/tv/news/a484296/david-bowie-five-years-5-reasons-you-have-to-watch-the-documentary-again-tonight/ )

Such sad news - his new album is a wonderful piece of work, although now we know what he was going through, the words are heartbreaking. The last track on the album is classic Bowie and the perfect goodbye through his music.

I'm really looking forward to getting the vinyl - ordered from Amazon just before they sold out. Some very silly prices on ebay now ...

His collection is being hammered on Amazon, large numbers of his catalogue are currently out of stock, or with delivery dates running to weeks, not days. Glad I have it all already!

I keep getting different songs coming through in my head and the Bowie Lyrics thread has only made it worse Typing this while watching 'Ground Control to Major Tim' on the telly (I very much doubt Major Tim's a junky though...).

Lorde's Tribute to BowieI can't link the video directly, but it's here. She was a good choice and I've loved her since her album was released last year.

Oops! I was playing Pure Heroine just now and it stands out from other recent releases in being exceptionally well recorded and mastered. Anyway, I love the songs and am glad that she has shown staying power as she deserves it.
