I'm afraid that I suffer from said condition. The problem is my listening room in crammed with stuff. At the moment I have a pair of Heybrook HB2 (version 1) speakers that I'm restoring sitting on the floor. In another corner I have a Radford STA25 and SC25 preamp, my window sill has a fully modded Net Audio 405-2 sitting doing nothing. Why all the gear? Well I decided I'd embrace the hobby of buying and learning about vinyl and trying new gear rather than bickering over what's the best power cable or if a piece of wood under a cable makes a difference. Really, what a lot of wasted time. My OCD is suffering but my enjoyment of my hobby is improving in leaps and bounds. Nice paradox to be in  |

It's nice to hear from you again.
It's great that you've found a new way to keep your hobby interesting. It's true there is a lot of kit that I'd like to have a play around with too, so Ienvy you embarking on your new adventure. I liked those HB2s, they seemed very natural and unforced sounding and much bigger that the box they were in. It always amuses me when I think of the wedge that they later introduced to tilt the cabinets back a few degrees.

I have OCD. It manifests itself in a need for order, symmetry and space (especially personal space). I also can't wear restrictive clothing such as a tie or a watch. I shy away from crowds, queues and traffic jams. My OCD conflicts with my hobby in that my desire to collect intrudes on my space. It results in clearouts of things that I'm not really ready to part with.
I don't feel like I suffer though. I just don't feel that it's natural to be amongst crowds or to be swamped with possessions. I'm happier with less.

As it is I have the 'not used, really should sell' stuff stashed in another room
Being out of sight and mind it's not been sold.....

When you say fully modded, how far did you go with it and have you given it a good assessment yet? I still think they are great amps, would definitely have one again at some stage ... I'm probably one of the few people who really likes the aesthetics as well. |

My OCD manifests differently, and that's keeping my listening room devoid of other gear. I do have a stack of unlistened to records at the moment which bothers me and should be shifted. I keep the Gale speakers and other stuff in a spare bedroom, accessories like cables in the garage, although that's beginning to pile up in the study. I really like my listening room to be clean and clear of clutter. I'm the same with my car, always tidy.
Putting all the excess gear on sale is a bastard, though, and I do it too slowly.

I fancied a change and decided to see how some of my old friends were doing. I've done a full resto on the Heybrook. X-o's have been rebuilt with new Mundorf E caps. The inductors and resistors have been left alone. I've rewired in 1mm silver wire, added solid copper binding posts which can take all manner of connectors and wire diameters. The cabinets have been fillled and are currently awaiting some loveley Zebrano wood veneer. I'm currently driving them with my Sondex s100 valve amp. I have OCD. I can relate to the clear outs, the crowd situation, symemetry etc. I think in general the old neurones must be wired slightly differently in people like us? That's something I'd love to see and hear. I remember one was on the market a few years ago and I was very, very tempted. How does it sound?

I wanted some STA100 monoblocks but gave up after 3 years of searching. This S100 came on the market and it's the last design of John Widgery who designed the STA25/100 for Radford so it's a continutaion of his work. The amp has been sold a few times and this one was in London for a while, then Harrogate and now in Wakefield. It takes x4 KT88's (Sovtek installed at the moment and these arn't my choice). The midband is sublime but takes a little while to warm up, say 30-40 minutes before we start to get the best out of it. I purchased the S100 to drive my 15MG's, I had some new cabs made by Russ Collinson and they now sit in a 240 litre pair of cabs designed by Paul @ RFC. Previously they were driven by my Radford STA25 which did a great job but you always got the feeling that they needed more grunt, hence the S100. The S100 drives the Tannoys with ease and makes them go really loud very very easily. The Sondex gives me better bass, a greater depth and solidity of soundstage, just a big improvement over my old STA25. TBH I'm still getting to grips with the Sondex and I need to make notes on its strengths and weaknesses. The S100 was partnered with a Croft Micro Basic which to my ears is one of the best kept secrets in HiFi, this was replaced by a Croft Epoch which will again be modified, this is another 2016 project. The croft and Sondex make a sublime pair that I'm really happy with. The final mod will by a new set of Reference grade XO's for the Tannoys, the current XO's are at reference level but can be improved upon. |

Sounds good. When I was trying to justify to myself the thought of buying the one I saw, I was wondering what it would be like to use it in bi-amp mode with my STA15. Now, I reckon that would have been magical!

I also have a couple of operational OCDs: I sort all my discs alphabetically which means a massive reshuffle when I've bought too many 'A's. I also always put CDs back in their boxes the right way up.

I went through my tapes yesterday and rewound them all so they were all at the beginning of side A. Quite satisfying.

I keep my CDs and LPs in alphabetical order but only so I can find them easily. I recall visiting an audio friend once and he has a 15 foot shelf chocka with LPs and seemed kind of proud when he said they weren't in order, just placed at random - he wanted to find a particular LP for me to hear and gave up trying to find it after a few minutes. What's the point of that? 
Overall I think I'm fairly free of OCD - I have a music Man Cave with all my hifi and music gear in. Sometimes it's tidy, sometimes it isn't. Loads of gear that's not in use at the moment. Some bought just for looking at.
I'm not bothered at all by a fairly high level of untidyness, but I do have a bit of a tidy up when audio pals come to visit.
