A new company in Germany has begun making record presses again. Apparently you simply haven't been able to buy a new one for about 30 years. Jack White has bought six and has done a deal to press copies of early Motown singles and other such stuff along with his own records.

I wonder if we haven't lost all the skills required to get good reliable quality out of them?

You can manufacture a machine but knowledge, experience and skill are another set of commodities altogether.

several of these new machines have been up and running for test pressing lines for over a year now
main problem was cost in making ones , but once in serial production in numbers the cost will drop by a large margin
but you still need skilled production workers & quality control
