Itch? No, an itch implies an irritant. I'm very happy indeed with my system - but I am also looking forward to the next hifi toy to try out. By far the biggest upgrade since I got my MBLs was my subscription to TIDAL - a truly awesome amount of new music to explore.

By the way - congratulations to TAS - this and other recent threads have made this the most entertaining and enjoyable hifi forum for me at the moment.

That's a nice thing to say Jerry, thank you very much for that.

Bake-off thoughts: I have tried a large group and smaller sessions with 1-2 people. The latter works far better. Also, make sure you limit the amount of equipment to try out; there is nothing worse than a mass of components and cables being brought over with the expectation that everything must be tried, and going through the ordeal of ripping up the system several times over. It's not fun and leads to listener and owner fatigue. I now prefer no more than two people coming over with no more than a couple of items to try and a selection of their music. Such sessions are greatly enjoyable and you can learn a lot from them, as well as update your music purchase list! Big bake-offs are not for me any longer. I agree with this I enjoy the intimacy of a smaller meet and always learn something new

I agree, too. I've been to several crowded bake-offs - very little if any chance to sit in the sweet spot and hear what is really going on, but big sweeping assumptions and judgments on kit performance are made anyway. A lot of nonsense.
I prefer a gathering of 2 or 3 as well.

If you go down in the woods today, be prepared for an assault on your mental state as north of the board beasties are roaming around I believe and you know how they can bludgeon your aural senses with a new dimension in logic

I struggle with the marking of my own system
I need a benchmark of some sort

It's purely subjective, Mike. You form your own benchmark. Go on, give it a shot!
