The £30.00 Chromecast Audio has been officially announced. It only has a 3.5 mm to 3.5 mm cable included, although they will happily sell you a 3.5 mm to RCA or optical. The 3.5 mm to RCA (sort of obviously) is the only option that has two separate "outs." The "Audio" is designed to run active speakers, or can be plugged into an amp. Chromecast Audio

Umm, can't you just do that with Bluetooth? I stream Spotify with Bluetooth from my phone to my car system.

What I said was that there is only one lead included in the purchase price, but Google/Chromecast will sell you the others.

I still don't get it, what does it do that's different?

It carries the word Google on it. Isn't that enough for you?! Actually, the real innovation is the overuse of the word 'cast' in the promotional information. This is new, better and more evolved than mere streaming!

From what I've read my impression is that it's meant to be a competitor for the Sonos Connect at a tenth of the price for starters. It also has (Google say) Spotify integration. I believe Wi-Fi has a better range than Bluetooth too. In the future BBC Radio player support has been announced and they are "working on" multi-room audio streaming. Please note, I'm not a user, and not a Google apologist, I'm just trying to answer your "What does it do that's different (from Bluetooth)" question by reading a bit about it on the web as I was the O.P.
I do have an original Chromecast and it's great for what I want it for, which is casting streaming BT Sport from my tablet to the telly. For £30.00 and a with free app for my phone/tablet to control it all I can't really fault it.

Thanks, that builds a better picture. For the money, as you say you can't really fault it.
Google have wasted a lot of money developing a simpler sans-serif logo that looks worse than the original. They're all at it, what with Microsoft and their four coloured boxes.

I think y'all are missing a key aspect of the Chromecast which is its ability to stream directly from the Chromecast device itself rather than controlling mobile phone or computer (You can shut off your phone and Spotify will still play) . Add this to its 24/96 digital output and you have something pretty amazing. Currently using It to stream Tidal to my Audio-GD Reference 5 DAC and am having difficulty tearing myself away to use the less convenient Roon via USB input.

Yup, you are correct, it's a great bit of kit for the money.
