Good sound advice as usual chaps. I think what I will do is approach a single manufacturer for all the drivers and crossover. Then give the dimensions of the model to the cabinet maker. This way all the pitfalls can be avoided whilst still giving me a unique pair of speakers when completed.

You will need a cabinet design and the manufacturer to give you the crossover values You really need to do your research well with the route you planning to take it is not straight forward as you think

I'm a big KEF fan, BUT the bigger the better - I'm not so keen on the smaller ones (e.g. I don't like the LS50s). They tend to be very neutral so the rest of your system needs to be good.. The Kent Engineering Foundry C5 is currently on offer at £249:95. At that price I feel it has to go on my list, very many thanks, I had not considered this make. KEF's for sure, but the C5 isn't one of their better ones - I'd look at the Q/IQ models (e.g. IQ5)

Wilmslow Audio are a very good resource for drivers, crossovers, damping and used to make kits. Have a good look around, you may get ideas for a design where the drivers and crossover are already matched.
