A rather funny e-mail conversation happened the other day which got me thinking, about a year or 2 ago I ripped 100's of my CD's to FLAC and then put them all in the loft and listened to the files via a music server. As time progressed a couldn't be arsed faffing about with the server so bought an OPPO 105D Audiocom signature version disc player which plays CD, SACD etc etc and also allows a NAS drive to be attached via the rear USB sockets. It also streams internet radio and is far less faffy as far as I am concerned based on my own user experiences, others have their opinions of course. I was wondering therefor who uses what and why? Leave analogue out of it as that is a sacred playback ritual that will live on forever and in essence never changes, you get up, put a record on and sit back down, computer audio is different for obvious reasons, mainly you become a lazy t..t as the music can be controlled with your i thingy or android tablet/phone so you never need to get up from your chair apart from to take a leak or go to bed!

Well, you can even take your 'thingy' with you when you take a leak (or worse!) and select the next album from there, if you so choose!!

I had a even cheaper Sony Blue Ray player up against the Oppo playing music from the USB input and I could not hear the difference so went down the Sony route (the Oppo is a far better Blue ray Player if that is important to you) Using a good DAC rather the Oppo outputs works best. The Sony I have can only be used with a DAC. I have a Direct digital amp and able stream Spotify direct to the amp which I have to use via the Premium service I also think the Raspberry Pi is a fantastic way to do this and offers great value for money and better SQ too according to Martin. I did try a LG Blue ray Player too as some streams Spotify and can recommend this too I used to do Jplay and MQn even went down the 2 pc route but happy to be rid of this method the SQ is not as good it has a certain sound to it I do not enjoy. I not heard the latest build so maybe they addressed the issues but I somehow doubt it The best PC I heard is TonyC build

To answer your question about digital sources, David:
CD, SACD, DVD-A: Ayre C-5xe MP disc player Blu-ray: Pioneer BDP-LX55 player -> Beresford Caiman-II DAC Files, internet radio, Spotify: Raspberry Pi, Digi+ -> Beresford Caiman-II DAC
That about covers it.

I do not rip discs as I perfer sound quality over convienence
Use a multi format high transport into a TAD Dac and red book quality and high resolution files through a PC transport
Works well a delivers a sound I enjoy very much
