Sorbothane boots or blocks may be a cheap alternative if the Rega is sat on a rack. Tap the rack shelf and see what comes through the speakers...

Although I don't like it under other components, I find sorbothane under an Electric Beach S1NX shelf works wonders for turntable isolation.

Rest the stylus on a non-rotating record and set the volume to normal listening levels. Now - gently - tap around the rack. If you still get little through, you're fine.

My cabinet is fine for the deck to stand on as long as there's some rudimentary isolation. the RP3 'Mule deck' with R200 wasn't so secure, as tapping the cabinet top caused a dull deep-bass thud through the speakers. The R200 is nowhere as good as the RB series here and may have been the problem. I had some old round Audioquest sorbothane feet from decades ago and tried three under the Rega feet. Problem solved. next to look at was drive noise from the 24V motor. Cutting the input voltage made no difference and as the deck is something to try tonearms on, I wasn't intending to get the external supply (the trimmers only work on the external Rega supply, not the 24VAC wallwart.

Tried this out and there is a noise through the turntable it I tape it in the way you suggest, it isn't too loud but get louder dependant on where the volume control is.

You're almost always going to get something, Paul. You need to judge whether the isolation is sufficient and whether it can be improved. Try sorbothane or similar under the turntable shelf or, if that's impossible, sandwiched between two shelves. Tap the same amount at the same volume and listen for a reduction in volume.

I get it, there wasn't a lot of noise at all. I have some sorbathane feet that Mike's lent me so I'll try them out, thanks Martin.

So I have decided that I am not entirely happy with my system.
I find myself turning the volume down far too frequently and find voices, particularly gruff styles screechy and eventually annoying.
Making the recent changes (using DbPoweramp as opposed to iTunes) seems to have helped a little but I just wanted to know what people think.
I am not in a financial position to spend a lot on the system (with the imminent arrival of our baby) so what would people recommend?
Maybe it is that the system it too revealing for my liking?, although having heard Mike's system for instance, which is even further revealing, I don't find his anywhere near as fatiguing.

I would start with mains. Do you still have an unswitched socket feeding a mains block ?
Is the TV, set up different ? Have you tried turning all of that TV gear off and then listening ? Anything else that could usefully be turned off and tested ?
Different file format has to be a favourite.
Tried the Beresford DAC in there yet ?
More revealing for me has always been good. I think something is wrong

I know what you mean, I hate harsh treble. I don't know your speakers but I do know your amps. As mike says, are there any wallwarts/ switch mode power supplies near by??? Turn those buggers off and have another listen. You could toe your speakers out, i.e. Away from the middle and have another listen. This really helped me with an old pair of speakers I had.

Some good advice
Looking at your last picture I have a few suggestions about the room and layout Maybe Like what Martin has down have furniture to dampen some of the reflections in your room Try the speaker in different postions and angles. Perhaps toe out a bit The edgy treble is not to do with resolution as Mike system shows a good system will be very listenable I had a similar issue for years. Using felt around my Tweeters when I had floorstanders helped a lot, even more than mains in my case. Try the cheap options first, sometimes a simple change to the speakers can make a huge difference

Do you get the same problem with all of your sources?

Yes room acoustics are really important I've got some Russ Andrews felt tweeter rings if you want to borrow them

My advice would be to flog all the Naim gear. I am confident you can get better sound for no more than the used value of these. In your position I would try the entry level NVA pre power or something from the Cambridge range. Keep the Fono but if you are not satisfied I'm pretty sure the NVA phono 1 would be an improvement.

I'm no big fan of Naim gear, but I don't think it's particularly known for searingly bright treble, is it? That is, after all, the nature of the problem.

I think you may be right about the Naim Streamer, it's certainly around the time I bought it that I lost something, I think it has more detail than my previous Logitech Squeezebox Touch / Beresford DAC combo, but isn't as nice to listen to. Think I'll try the combo back in the system. I don't think it's the Exposure amps as they are pretty renound for being on the warmer side and IMHO are a lot better than Naim equivilant.

Do you get the same problem with all of your sources? Yes but nowhere near as bad with the record player.
