Hopefully this is a nice easy one, but does anybody know of a good value non OEM remote which would operate all or just some of the basic functions (play - stop - fwd - rev - etc) on my Meridian 206 CDP?
Cheers Pete

This is not a for-certain recommendation, but I think that generation of Meridian used the standard (then) RC-5 code and chips. Anything European from that era should work, because it almost certainly uses the Philips chips.
Later on, different codes were used to cope with DVD etc (RC-6 - not backward compatible), and the Japanese manufacturers used a totally different system.
Again no guarantee but ebay 271482949200 is a goodmans remote, and has the Philips "compact disc digital audio" style, the same as my Meridian 200 remote. Looks like £8.95 buy it now, and could be worth a punt. If it doesn't work, it is less than a tenner wasted.
There are lots of Japanese product remotes on eBay, but they will not work for sure.

Many thanks Craig Short term, I've just found that my heavyweight Moon CDP remote works it, so perhaps that might be a clue for somebody who knows these things...

Have a look at the One-for-All site, they do many remotes of both the built-in codes and learning types.

I use an Android app called ZappIR to control my 206. The only Meridian profile available is actually for a DVD player however it operates the unit perfectly. ZappIR profiles are fully customisable and there are more features available than on the original 206 remote, e.g. drawer open/close.

Most Philips/Marantz CD remotes from 80s and 90s should work. So will any early Micromega or Arcam. Likewise the Rotel remotes dp from things like the RCd 955 and 965bx players. Early Naim remotes will work too but they ain't cheap.

Just in case anybody is watching this, I managed to source a nice cheap Goodmans remote, but unfortunately it doesn't work. Now trying to source a cost effective Marantz or Philips remote...

I actually ordered another myself. They never come in wrong. It's a bit plasticky but it came in a re-sealabke cellophane wrapper. I just put batteries in and used it inside the wrapper to keep it pristine. It was a great visual match for the Quad CD.
