More magic or summat.
Dave Sharman - 1990. Love this album even though it is *Not* well made, compressed, yet the system is digging more out of it, from somewhere. Granite placemats on top of the RTZ. Listening at 80db, sounds louder. Dynamic range extended ?

One more play of Powaqqatsi before putting away, I thought.. Sounds even better than before. Bonkers Confess to trying out Coherent BD speaker cables and one mains, but they aren't doing all of this. Must be the granite placemats burning in More and more music. Powaqqatsi not being put away

Surprising to hear so much coming out of Rainer and Das Kombo - Barefoot Rock Raw, brilliant Assume this is mostly the RTZ with help from Coherent BD mains and speaker cables Helps having the volume up Not on Spotty BTW

I know how good Kowaanisqatsi sounds on my big rig, Mike. I'll call up Powaqatsi on Qobuz and take another listen tonight.

Mahavishnu Orchestra - Visions of the Emerald beyond. (The 2nd best Mahavishnu album it might be said)
*Not* objective - Sounds better than a few days ago. The only difference is a chair moved in. Ah, forgot plus my little secret tweak that is surely not going to work. I'll be back later.....

After being surprised how good Rainer and Das Combo - Barefoot Rock sounded I dug out all Rainer's wonderful albums, put them in chronological order and started playing. I know all these albums very well.
Well I thought I did. So much more coming out of all of them.
Rainer thread starting soon.

The last and weakest Rainer Ptaceck album I have, with various artists aplenty The Inner Flame My least favourite Rainer album and was not looking forward to it. Until now. Staggering amount of information I have never heard before. Still coming to terms with an album that has changed from so so to oh oh. <later> I even like the female vocals ! Westwood Sessions Vol 1 played before that was even more wonderful Seems like you can't hear it anywhere except at my place. Shame. Be glad to play it for you

Big changes noticed today playing Powaqqatsi, still in the big system play loop. Assume improvement from the RTZ, however biggest changes must be the moving and removal of various kit, furniture, mostly hard plus one soft chair. Most were behind the speakers Not a scientific test as the volume is well up, peaking high 92db. Detailed, slightly hard sound. The RTZ trademark seems to be that midrange slam which there is plenty off. Closer to reality ? Some kit and furniture coming back today, except I don't want to move and 3 dogs on top of me are also comfortable Anyone else hear the dog howling in the far background on track 16 ?

90% finished moving everything back and taking a rest. More width in the soundstage, solidity especially in the mid range also more bass on John Hiatt's The Tiki bar is open Sweeter more together sound Will be resting a bit longer Coherent BD mains feeding the Audio Magic conditioner and BD speaker cables are playing their part very well. They have been in a few weeks now. The main part has to be the RTZ grounding away. Items still out/removed : Mana 5 shelf rack. Revox valve G36 tape deck B&O Cassette deck LP12 Tosiba DVD Two Ikea tables moved back against the wall that were behind / level with one speaker about 2' away Isobarik speakers in the far corner away from the system behind a sofa Can't think the above would make that much difference sonically. Great sound. Sun is shining. Two dogs sitting on and around me. A good day

Back to my Rainer Ptacek albums The Texas Tapes sounds better than a few days ago. Room changed slightly as above. Madness or did I lose a marble or three ? Exquisite sound Think I have a spare CD unless I already sold it to Paul

TAD M2500 MkII Power AmpCurrently plugged into the system. Left to warm up for a day. Then a bit longer as I had a problem with the Isis, easily sorted once I thought about it Acquainting myself with the sound. Seems pretty good playing albums I know from the current queue. A/B with the Belles Monos tomorrow all being well. Extra weight and depth seem to be there. Certainly a nice sound <later> Tangerine Dream was a step up. Gotan Project Lunatico seems to be a very big step up Comparison will be very interesting tomorrow

Am I right in thinking that the TAD and Belles don't share too much in common in terms of construction?
TAD operates in Class D, I'm imagining quite a different presentation to what you are used to Mike!

Yes, the TAD is class D which is high frequency switching. The Belles is class AB linear.
I'm surprised, Mike. I've heard class D get close but I've not yet heard anything to beat the Belles.

Time marches on, and things changed quite markedly in this technology, as with everything treat the components right and they will shine.
Currently listening between two class 'd' amplifiers designs which are the next logic step up from ever very good linear amplifiers, lower noise floor, greater texture, fluidity and superb depth.
Do not mistake lack of power in some instances against overall real musicality, tonality and naturalness.
The SA100 is a firm favorite of mine without question one of the first designs I was involved and I have real soft spot for that amplifier and know its capabilities even in the new Virtuoso guise, however its doesn't match these new designs.
You will find that presentation isn't much different in terms of tonality of texture contrary to popular belief, as with all equipment if designed properly it can really shine.
I still feel the Virtuoso power amplifier is extremely good and it more that makes a lot of so called high ends amplifiers which cost more sound quite ordinary.
Also when you take a step up in resolution you will appreciate just how could a quality design can be imho
