That's great, thanks Tim ... I'm not familiar with Cécile Ousset so will check out that recording for sure.

I think Ousset plays the second movement incredibly beautifully Jules, not sure why exactly but it just moves me emotionally more than other recordings do.

Tim, it's a very special recording for me and I'm absolutely delighted you enjoyed it that much ...

For further listening, especially for those who enjoyed this piece, might I recommend Rachmaninov's Piano Concerto No.3? This is apparently one of the most difficult piano compositions in the repertoire to play, but for me it's the music that is quite fabulous.
Martha Argerich is magical in her interpretation and technical mastery.

Sublime.
Ashkenazy and Argerich are my two favourite pianists - I've not seen this video so thanks for posting ...

That live recording is available on Philips (446 673-2) and I strongly recommend adding it to your collection

In addition to the above (Ashkenazy), I have a version of the complete piano works performed by Rafael Orozco/Edo de Waart, with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra (Philips double CD); my favourite though remains the Richter/Wislocki (Warsaw NPO - Deutsche Grammophon) version which I have on LP.

Yes it has been fun checking out other great pianists' interpretations of this work.
I won't get the chance to hear Ashkenazy perform this live, but if Ms Argerich would oblige before she retires that would be something special...

If she does, I'll be joining you Jules. I've already tried twice to see her.

Love it - 8/10 from me. I couldn't choose between hearing it in a decent system or hearing it often (in the car), so I have two copies!
