I think ebay is trying to get rid of the little guy and is becoming an online outlet for the high street chain stores. They seem to be discouraging individual sellers with corporate speak and unreasonable terms and conditions. I am very wary of ebay and of selling anything through it. Its changed beyond recognition . I am with you brother, compared to the great diy selling and buying world wide second hand market it once was.
But I believe the situation we now face with online sales be it eBay or Amazon or other, is the consumer legislation. The changes that have occurred which is to our detriment are reactions to consumer protection legislation.
For selling now it is probably better to not use an organised online system which offers buyers money back for the sake of proof of postage. (after all buyers can now return a brick get a full refund and keep a Quad II) IF and when I decide to sell my valuable stocks it will either be direct to people I know or at a one time annual national meeting point. Such as used to be held at NEC, but seems to be wavering lately. In days of yore the Japanese came early and bought all the valves. I live in hope such buyers will return.
Otherwise I 'll take a big hit on £10,s of thousands of collection.
One thing is sure. Cant trust it to the far eastern ebay demand, the risk of scamming buyers is now far too great.

Ebay for me is like a Generation Game conveyor belt of vintage hifi - I scroll through it all and anything which looks unusual and interesting I Google. Has increased my knowledge of old hifi no end.
That 6 month return thing sounds a big problem for sellers though! And is PayPal wide, not just ebay.. I've a friend setting up a digital tickets company and already advised him to be cautious of PayPal as a payments processor, not sure he's aware that in the middle of May he could be getting refund requests for a New Years Eve party they didn't like much!
