Sat down for a proper listen and what is effectually an evaluation of WaveIO doing USB to SPdif conversion.
Same tracks as before.
Hmm not as good as yesterday.
Then I realised I had left Zen on generic setting 1 (all in one, that's required for communication, in my case). Set it to 5, DLNA - reattach in bubble, Ah that's better!
Can honestly say that it sounds as good with WaveIO in.
Does the USB active noise cancellation therefore = the Ipurifier of SPdif? I do not know🙂 my ears can't tell a difference anyway.

Good work so far, Steve.
You realise the ultraRendu only has USB output?

Good work so far, Steve. You realise the ultraRendu only has USB output? Yes, hence pressing WaveIO back into service - takes USB and converts to SPdif or I2S. If I ever find a Mutec 3 usb thingy going for a reasonable price I will get it to try as well.

Sonore Ultrarendu should be here tomorrow! 👍
Bizarrely I'm getting some track skipping with Bubble / Zen / WaveIO that I did not get at all previously.
It's after a random time into a track, usually minutes or so. Not all tracks either.
Hard to suspect dumb converter WaveIO though??!
Unless it's weirdly upsetting things further up the chain? It's not a keeper in the Zen set up of course, just a proof of function.
Thinking about it, it's more likely to be the switch from mode 1 to 5 (DLNA) on the back. That stopped play and then I briefly saw 2 IFI Renderer icons in Bubble. Time will tell..
If you open the IFI app while the switch is on 5, it flickers on the phone screen something crazy and gets no nowhere!

Sonore Ultrarendu should be here tomorrow! 👍 Hope you like it - after getting mine I couldn't imagine going back to Volumio based streamers. It's different class in terms of software and sounds great too.

I hope you don't get the skipping issues with the UltraRendu

I use a Gustard U18 with my Rendu, giving direct I2S out.

Interesting, unfortunately the Gustard with 'that' version of I2S output cannot be used with Najda I2S, or at least not without further conversion, if possible.
I tried the Zen without WaveIO, no skipping. Then I put the WaveIO back on, no skips the whole evening.
Seems it was most likely Bubble/renderer trouble🙂

The Gustard seems affordable compared to the Mutec! Lock me into SPdif though.
Where did you get the Gustard(s) from?

Locks me into SPdif though. For output? S/PDIF (3 types) or I2S over HDMI. Its input is USB plus an external master clock if you ever want to upgrade.

Yes, I've had a read up on that one, Singxer and another one, I can't recall right now.. too Need personal recommendations though, unless it's try / returnable.

Sonore Ultrarendu has landed. Another good things come in small packages.. Plumbed in for listening later today. Other news - I've ordered a Gustard U18 to use with the Ultrarendu. Can also try it with the Zen.. Arrives tomorrow. Once I've played with SPdif input to Najda, I will try WaveIO with the native (internal CD/Dac) I2S. Unless there's an I2S (over HDMI) to native I2S converter, out there?

Excellent.
I got my Rendu from Martin and he added a heatsink to it, as they do run very warm. Might be something to consider.

Back in my Class A KT88 PP amp building days, the tail resistors were dropping 25W of pure heat! 🥵. I had enormous heatsinks on them.

One thing that becomes evident is how well sorted the Sonicorbiter OS is. A very stable implementation. You should browse to it and update the Rendu before using it in anger.

Unless there's an I2S (over HDMI) to native I2S converter, out there? Good moves there, Steve. The Rendus with U18 just work brilliantly well together. There are a few of us using this combo. I think Audiophonics may do an I2S adapter to the native signals?
