Much more subtle. Grounding boxes and me - no!

Nope. Clue, the application of an aggregate to help sound waves on their merry journey.

You're playing some Louis Armstrong! He's got a gravelly voice!

Forgot to update you.. Here's a couple of close ups.. Achieved very easily by spraying on lacquer (I used clear) and then throwing fine dry block paving and at them all over and quickly. Knocking off the excess and then light coats of spray lacquer over to colour / seal. Question is, should I do the mid horns too? Mid bass / bass no need - long sound waves.

Really nice finish Steve! Bit like our living room 'textured paint', Dulux as I remember ...

Very good. Is it supposed to break up waves somewhat and smooth their 'horniness'?

They don't have any horniness! That is a myth created by small cone speaker sellers in the old days. Perpetuated by idiots trying to make small 2 and 3 way all horn, poorly implemented designs, with cheap parts 😉 and of course cheap PA systems. Tannoy prove it can be done with their high quality Dual Concentric designs, but at a price.
It is supposed to do something to the waveform propagation along and out though, yes.
Have you heard multi cell horns? Weird that you can split the wave front up into 16 or more little squares for a foot or 2, but when they emerge and rejoin, they sound great. Perhaps it is along these lines?

Yes, I get you. I agree that your speakers don't exhibit horniness or cuppiness but I've heard others that do.

The Vitavox S2 drivers (same drivers as the Living Voice Vox Olympian uses) help 🙂

I read this on the Volumio site
"Tinkerboard supports I2S output, however for some reasons the I2S output is handled (at driver level) via USB. We’re still not sure how I2S connection is handled at Hardware level, and whether the board is Pin compatible with Raspberry PI in regard to I2S. We’re working closely with ASUS to clear everything related to I2S and try to extend its compatibility with Volumio’s supported I2S DACs."
I'm not sure how old that info is.
Might be interesting to try one. Best would be if it worked with reclocker Kali.
I thick an email too Volumio, Asus and Allo is in order.

Yes, if it were possible I would strongly recommend you go down that road as a) Tinker Board is way more powerful and responsive and b) USB is known to perform well (I use it) and so, I guess, is I2S.
This may be why you're frustrated with, say, Volumio search. It's virtually instantaneous using the Tinker Board S.

Reading of other exploits and short Vs long walls, I wondered if I could squeeze my system along the long wall. Tapped horns would be horizontal along the wall, mouths either wide apart or nearer the middle. Or running into the room away from the long wall. That would preserve spacing. The horns could sit in an arc of decreasing size following the slope of the loft ceiling. Sofa and chairs along opposite long wall. Could work. Might sound horrible or not?!
I'm not at all unhappy with the sound, just curious 🤿 or 🎯

I think your room is too narrow, Steve, although generally I prefer throwing across the short dimension.

I think so too. It might be pretty intense though.

I just put my 550Hz turned wood horns back on the Vitavox S2 upper mid channel drivers. Martin, you would like these a lot I had to dig back into the thread to remind me of the room layout, so I thought I'd repost the pic. Is it still the same?

I think so too. It might be pretty intense though. Giant headphones with one speaker one end and the other speaker the other? Only kidding;)

Actually my listening position would only be about 40cm nearer.. I could get horns (midbass/mid/upper mid) and Ribbon tweeters, vertically aligned again. But the current outlying mids adds an extra dimension to the soundstage that's quite compelling. Normal config ideas would tell you it might not be optimal, but it works wonderfully.

Just checking in to say my system is sounding amazing! Just the right balance of clarity, detail, dynamics, slam and depth for my taste. Qobuz for all its user issues was the last piece in the puzzle.
I'm sure there are minor tweaks to come but I'm pretty sure they will be minor.
