Difficult to understand when you sit on the fence I prefer walls. And being on the right side of them

I'm going to upgrade the 12-0-12v power supply to the Najda DSP XO DAC board. I'm going for an AC step down transformer, 50VA TOROIDAL TX 2X12V from RS. the This will supply the necessary + & - voltage AC to a suitable linear regulator like this Need to order that.. The regulator will be next to the Najda board. The AC transformer will be remote in a steel case I shall fabricate to keep that well away from things. Shielded AC +12-0-12V will be supplied in via a suitable 3 pin chassis socket, swapping out the current IEC 240V socket. It's the last piece in the improved power supply project. Better order some steel sheet and fire up the MIG welder The rest I have in the parts bin pretty much I think.

12V supercaps are a bit pricy, but you might want to consider a couple on the 12V lines as they seem to help digital circuits so well.

Metal box was duly made and will then be put in a birch plywood one when I get around to it. Dual winding / output traffo from RS plumbed was in. The 12-0-12 AC output is via a plaited RS type A PTFE insulated wire I had in 3 suitable colours. This is fed with plenty of free space around it to the AC to DC linear regulator input that is close to the Najda 12-0-12 DC input. +12v, Gnd and -12v DC are supplied as required. Powered up.. good, the magic smoke stayed where it should be! All works. I let things warm up and it's sounding mighty fine. This solution replaced the Mouser high quality, low ripple etc very high frequency switching mode PSU that I've had since day one of Najda. 12-0-12 DC was not an easy DIY or off the shelf solution back then and many of us used the Mouser PSU. I'm completely linear now. Evaluation time now

After the Volumio / Spotify connect plugin debacle I need to burn a new SD card with the updates..
It's good that Najda DSP is on a 12v input (see above about the linear 12-0-12 supply). I can now remove the mains gubbins and it's associated old PSU which will make it very easy to remove / insert the SD card into the RPi.. I might do what Martin has done with a remote/external SD card slot. RPi maintenance via SD card seems to be a needed and reoccurring theme :?

For me, too. However, I won't be slavishly following every update, only those of significance.
By the way, I removed the Audiophonics extension cable for the SD card on account of it being problematic. It's easy enough to lift the cover and replace the card with tweezers. Having two on the go makes life easier.

That's good to know. Yes cover lift is easy.. I only update for major bugs

Removed the old Mains and PSU stuff, so easy enough to get the SD card out of RPi now. Was a pain before.. I made a new SD card and it was quick to get things up and running. Having done it all before and written it down in my terms always helps.. I have not really been following things that closely, Githead etc.. Installed the Spotify plugin and Spotify connect too. Oh it's still 0.7.4 OTA. Silly me, I thought that would be the first place they'd apply an annoying bug fix.. So I'll have to try Git etc.. At least Spotify app can see Volumio again and there's the queue method.. and I'm on the latest Volumio. Oh and by the way, playlists are gone, so they are on the SD card - won't be using them in Volumio again

I noticed today that there's a backup plug-in, to back up all your settings, so you'll know for next time Try the modification to index.js for Spotify playlists in the Volumio interface. That makes life easier.

An update on the sound..
After concerted listening I find the new linear PSU has cleaned things up. It's not a massive change but very worth while.
Overall I'm very happy with the current sound. It's definitely moved on since using the laptop and Flacs. Partly down to eliminating the laptop but also the improved power supplies everywhere oh and the 550Hz tractrix horns on S2's - the upper mid channel.
I don't find I'm feeling I'm lacking dynamics, detail etc or it's a low res version of what it might be.. quite the opposite. Quite something to be saying about Spotify.

Not fixed that one yet. But, I can report that RPi & Volumio & Spotify & Spotify connect are all working just as they should and sounding great.. Spotify locks on to the Volumio device, tracks from anywhere play perfectly and it logically plays the next track in whatever list you are in. Heaven
