Do you know what was top of the charts on the day you were born? Or on your 18th birthday? This Day In Music (Birthday No.1)'Get Off My Cloud' by the Stones for me (both in the UK and US) Sadly, I have to bear the cross of having Billy Joel's 'Uptown Girl' as the nation's choice in the soundtrack of my 18th birthday.

Geraldo and Joe Loss - Lamplighter!! I'm too old for the singles chart, its based on sales of sheet music!!
18th -Concrete and Clay by Unit 4 + 2. I still listen to that occasionally, can't say the same about Geraldo and Joe Loss though.

Eddie Calvert, and The New Seekers. That's just bloody embarrassing.

I'm not exactly sure as charts were not invented in 1950.
Best (educated) guess is Doris Day or Nat King Cole, and they are still in my favourites list today.

Serendipity. Never knew that until this thread. In 1980 I married my love Diana and love her more than ever now. I echo the words of that song.
