Hi I'm Mike, originally from shores afar but based in London. Decided to join this board after lurking in background for a while. I don't consider myself a bonafide audiophile by any stretch, but let's say amateur audio tweaker! I have a rather humble setup at present that I'm building up as I go, but with intentions of keeping it simple and relatively streamlined. I am a musician so use monitor speakers instead of hifi speakers.
Amp - Marantz PM6005 Turntable - Technics 1210 MK2, Denon DL110, Sumiko HS12, Funk Firm 5mm Acromat DAW - iMac 21.5", Roland Quad Capture Audio Interface (output via coaxial to PM6005) Speakers - Tannoy Reveal 6 Passive Monitors
Interested in further upgrades to my TT and the addition of a Marantz UD5007 universal player when the price is right.
Musical tastes vary from traditional latin styles like Cumbia, Salsa, Latin Jazz, to Trip-Hop, Electronic, Hip-Hop all sorts of rock from Psychedelic, Prog, Punk, Metal, Post-Hardcore, Grunge, Mathcore, Folk, Funk. Don't have any classical in my collection but enjoy OST compositions, I love hearing the wide soundstage and dynamics of a well produced record, in contrast to my other love for amps set to 11!
Cheers
Mike

Hi Mike, welcome to The Audio Standard! Always good to have a musician or two around! What instrument do you play and what sort of music do you make?
Cheers and welcome once again. Chris

Thanks for the welcome Chris. Yes well spotted! Well I'm primarily a bass guitarist, also play acoustic guitar and do some basic producing. My current band is a mix of desert rock, alternative metal, post-hardcore, with some fusion/latin/experimental elements. We don't really fit into specific category; we call it Slunge Rock.
Cheers
Mike

Oh right (I think!). I try not to think too much about genres and sub-genres etc. So you play what we used to call noisy rock music then? Excellent!!!!!

Precisely! Actually "Noise Rock" is yet another sub-genre, but that's enough classifications for one day!
Cheers

Hi Mike and welcome to TAS! Nothing wrong with that equipment roster, and always good to hear a musician's point of view in the music discussions.

Hi Mike and welcome! If you love 'soundstage and dynamics' in vinyl you really should give some classical a go some time for a bit of fun. You might be surprised - the best recordings are absolutely explosive in this regard - something like 'The Planets' with Andre Previn on EMI from the '70's is a great work out for any system, and also fantastic music ...

Chris - thanks for the free plug mate!
We're trying out a keyboard/vocalist next week, fingers crossed our stars are aligned.
Jules & Martin - Great recommendation, thanks! I had a listen online and it sounds epic, thundering abrupt crescendos galore, dynamic range overload! The compositions have an instantly recognisable science fiction / fantasy soundscape to them. Great stuff.
Cheers all
