It seems that the Cisco switches are only 1 Gigabit, whereas the DAC cable is 10G. I’ve ordered a different cisco compatible 1G DAC cable to try.

EtherREGEN is only 1GbE too, which is why I power it up first. 10GbE DAC works fine with it.

It’s possible it’s a Cisco incompatibility with the DAC cable I have too.

Well the gnodal cable arrived this morning and I had a quick listen before going out. A definite mellowing of already tamed hard edges to music streamed from Qobuz. That was noticeable immediately. Several hours of cascade noise and I'm listening again now. I think the cable will need a bit more time to settle in properly but I'm happy with it. Thanks again, Martin.
PS. EtherRegen here is still hot to the touch. It's being powered by an MCRU lps. No issues with the gnodal into a heavily modified Cisco Meraki switch either. Nice one.

Did you have to adjust any port setting in the Meraki?

Hi Matt
No mate, plug and play.

PS. EtherRegen here is still hot to the touch. That's a bit puzzling but then I did affix a large heatsink to the case of mine. It's certainly running much cooler than with the fibre cable.

Hi Matt No mate, plug and play. Ok thanks, good to know. Did you have any issues with the Meraki being a subscription based switch, or can you use it without the license?

I just checked it again and it's still schorchio. I suppose that's how it's always been so I'm not overly concerned but it would have been nice to see a drop in its temperature.

Melco produce a DAC cable which is available only in a 2m length and is outrageously priced. This...
...is total cobblers, but being kind perhaps it's lost in translation?
In any case, who would take a chance on it without direct listening experience?

Quick update, purchased two used Cisco Twinax SFP-H10GB-CU3M 37-0961-03 SFP+ 3M DAC Networking Cable Switch 10GB cables.
And happy to confirm MartinT findings... lower noise, faster pace and bass, overall more natural sounding than the Cisco Fibre it replaces.

I now have 2 DAC cables. A 0.2m iPolex and a 3m gnodal. I saw a nice price on an a supposed opened but unused gnodal. With some burn in on the gnodal I find I prefer it to the iPolex (thank you Martin!). My scenario is different to some hereas I’m running a pair of 10gtek media converters powered by Supercap power supplies, the media converters feed Ethernet to my R26.
The iPolex is better than the very good Cisco AOC but it’s a little uneven in that not all instruments are improved and vocals can be a trace subdued, yet the sound overall is excellent. What the gnodal brings is a more upfront and intimate sound with very clear definition and placement for all instruments. The music somehow just drops into place. Really excellent.

Thanks, Clive.
That sounds remarkably like the ipolex is similar to the FS and are both bettered by the gnodal. The latter is a cracking good cable.

We have to thank MartinT for this.

I know Martin and others are using the regen etc but will these work with a connection between an optical converter and a switch with sfp ?
