The US carbon emissions are 14% of the total. Shocking, but not surprising.

Remember this little tree? This is great. A little tree, one of 5,000 or so, about 20cm tall planted in March last year. Here it is photographed in its tree shelter on 6th April 2016 Now see what it looked like last week.... I was back there again this afternoon. It's a bit bigger. Just a bit. I put a line on the first photo at the point where the top of my head comes to. It's still only 16 months old!

Another innovative and thrilling method method of administering a manicure...
It's got everything a health and safety officer officer desires in life: flying machines, whirling helicopter blades, Dick Dastardly style circular saws mounted on a twirling rope and high voltage powerlines!

Back to that little tree again! It's now seventeen months old and the guy standing next to it is almost exactly 2 metres tall.

It is, yes - Eucalyptus glaucescens or Tingiringi gum. I made the mistake of planting one of those next to my decking at the last house. Apparently, biting insects don't like them and that was the prime reason for it's position in the garden. Fast forward seven years and the thing is about 30 feet high and the trunk had expanded, threatening the decking platform! I got a tree surgeon in to take it down and kill the stump, which was chain-sawed off at ground level!

Yes, they do grow pretty quickly. I think the best I have had is 7 metres growth in 17 months. I used to work with some people who had been growing them in Central Africa and South America, who were harvesting 25 metre tall trees 5 years after planting them!

Yes, Poplars in an urban environment are almost always going to end up being a problem to someone. Even after you fell them, the roots and suckers (those little ones that keep popping up) are going to persist with annoying consequences. You may have to be spreading around lashings of potent herbicide for a few years to come. Watch out what happens on your neighbours' side of the wall and/or fences too.

Over the w/end and today I removed those big roots , I undermined two ends of each and chained sawed them , one had a 7" dia . Also pruned this years twigs from the top longest measured 12 foot , they definitely do what it says on the tin ,grow fast.
