Good morning from Germany's Northern Coast! 71 year old retired and hifi enthusiast for decades. Turntable addicted, but due to a light age related tremor it was necessary to choose something robust. Wife, Dackel and me moved from Düsseldorf to a small village in Friesland. Still work in progress and waiting for some boxes. So, came to the forum more or less accidentally but sure to learn a lot. Take care! Achim

Thank you all for the warm Welcome! We have two rooms to fill with music. So, planned (and packed) is as follows.
Living room, CEO my wife only! Naim Uniti Atom, Denon DL-57 (build in late 80s I think) with Denon DL-103, MuFi MX-VNYL, Atoll 200 SACD, Dynaudio Focus 10, Roon (with a Nucleus)
Music room, CEO only me! Accuphase E-280 with Phono & Digital option, Revox T700 with Ortofon 2M Black 250LVB, iFi Neo Stream, Atoll DR-200 Signature, B&W 702 S3, Room (with NUCROCK)
Vinyl is still and will remain King. CDs are still in use. Streaming is a cheap and easy way to try news, but it is in my room not so often used. No expensive car any longer, no big journeys, so after a long and successful business life we granted us this setups. I am sure much more sophisticated are around here. As soon as everything is at its place and running I will proudly present pictures! If you want it or not 😉

Hi Achim, I've just returned to the UK from Germany as it happens - a lovely visit to the beautiful Dresden. I'm hoping to return for a concert from one of the orchestras there. What kind of music do you enjoy?

julesd68It would be so much easier to write what I don't like 😉 So I do not like: - Metal later than NWOBHM - esoteric and "audiophile" (I hate this word) Jazz trios. - German Schlager You see, there is lots of music which gets its chance. Some obsessive genres are - Italian Opera from Verdi to Bellini. - Maria Callas - Second Vienna School (Berg, Webern, Schönberg) This is the reason I have lost a few friends. - Coltrane, Monk, Bird - Floyd, Marillion, Tull - and as a born in Düsseldorf in 1951 and excited witness that time of KRAUTROCK Weird collection, I know. But I plea not guilty.

Ha! For years I didn't like any metal later than NWOBHM but changed my mind thanks to the boy John on this forum. Still love the old guys though - was lucky enough to see Iron Maiden in London recently with my son.
Very interested to see you enjoy opera - I'm not a fan myself but addicted to most other formats of classical music. You will have to give us some recommendations for Second Vienna School over in the classical section as I'm not so familiar ...

Just yesterday it came again to my mind how times in hifi have changed. With a very small budget one can have so much better sound than we years ago for much more cost. High-end prices became ridiculous, but what today is called entry level or budget class sounds already quite "adult". This is the setup which we used in our "new" house as it was as vacation only house. The decision to move was always in our heads and finally it was made faster than we thought. Some construction jobs are still to make, I will stay part of the company's Intranet as Breakfast Director 😉, therefore everything with the network is a bit more complicated. So, while waiting for the big guns the little ones must do the jobs. - NAD 316bee V2 - Q-Acoustics 3020i - TEAC TN-3 with AT VM95ML - Musical Fidelity V90 LPS - WiiM Pro Streamer - SMSL C100 DAC

I used to have this kind of setup, with the TV between the speakers. When listening, try putting a small blanket or any absorbent material over the TV screen to see if the stereo imaging improves.

MartinT It's still the multi-purpose-vacancy setup I have to live with for some weeks. Got the big chance to (let) build my new listening room with some acoustic gimmicks which is the speciality of an old friend of mine. This room has its longest dimension with the roof slope. So tricky anyway, but I have listened to a few setups in such a situation and some really blew me away. It could be heaven and it could be hell. But starting from zero is a good start 😉

Good luck with the new room, achim it's exciting starting from scratch (if you look at my first blog post you will see). Some sympathetic room treatment will get you far. This shows my real start of work... theaudiostandard.net/post/76366/thread

And if its not good it isn't the end..
