We play audio through the TAD system Often enough we have to go back to try to work out what was said Sometimes we put subtitles on

The last point you made Jules I fully agree with. UHD via Amazon? Are you serious? Sure, video compression algorithms are good, but they are not that good. A serious amount of data is getting junked, and in a lot of scenes rightly so. But for true high performance across all scenes, it will always be worse than not dumping any given hardware that can actually cope with no data loss at decent to very high resolution.
When I worked with video processing for a couple of years the Daddy was and probably still is an application called FFmpeg.
You would think video would be reasonably simple but it is a mass of unnecessary complexity unfortunately. I put that down to evolution over time.

We've traded in one set of issues when shooting on film for a completely different set of issues shooting on HD video. There is no shortage of complexities in terms of workflow which evolves over time with new cameras, codecs etc But broadcast quality video is a damn sight cheaper to produce of course.

I've got a decent 5.1 setup, using a good Yamaha amp, and my centre (speech) speaker is a Monitor Audio Silver Centre, yet I am also sometimes reduced to using subtitles because of "muffled" speech. Even allowing for my ancient lugholes, I should not have to, and blame the mixing.

Unfortunately everything is a compromise when it comes to technology.
Literally, everything.
Choose the compromises that make sense to you. As best you can.
The more it means to you, the more time you will spend trying to sort it out.
Which, of course, is cool. And annoying at the same time;)

My entire AV system runs on AQ Cinnamon, and above, cabling. That's true, by the way, it's a mix of Cinnamon, Chocolate, and Carbon cables apart from one AQ Forest USB cable, supplying 5v power from the TV to my Chromecast, which is really only a backup device, and hardly used these days.

I bought a Blu-ray of Tar to compare to the Amazon UHD stream and there is simply no comparison!
The 1080p Blu Ray wins hands down for clarity, detail, noise levels and colour rendition. Absolutely superb image.
I don't know what the 4k Blu would offer but I won't be trying - it's super expensive for that particular film and my screen isn't really big enough to benefit.
