Ten years ago I didn't own or even listen to any Bob Dylan records but I have become a fan and collect the MOFI issues on SACD , the above being one of them . This is the latest one I have purchased , a friend played the first track from Qobuz through my hifi and I had no idea it was Dylan as there are no words , nor the second , I was captivated and quite gobsmacked when I found out who it was . The album contains Knocking on heaven's door which you all will know . Qobuz

I'm not a Dylan fan but 'no words', if it means he's not singing, shows promise.
I'll listen to it now.

The sound is decent, apart from Billy 1, which sounds rough. Thankfully, there's not much of Dylan singing, but I would say it's overall OK as background music, which is fine as it's a soundtrack. Knockin' on Heaven's Door is the standout, but there isn't enough to hold my attention, to be honest. 3/5

For the (other) nerds out there...
Bob Dylan – guitar, vocals, harmonica
Byron Berline – backing vocals, fiddle
Fred Katz, Ted Michel – cello
Gary Foster – recorder, flute
Carl Fortina – harmonium
Jolly Roger – banjo
Bruce Langhorne – acoustic guitar
Roger McGuinn – guitar
Carol Hunter – twelve-string guitar, backing vocals
Booker T. Jones – bass guitar
Terry Paul – bass guitar, backing vocals
Jim Keltner – drums
Russ Kunkel – tambourine, bongos
Priscilla Jones, Brenda Patterson, Donna Weiss – backing vocals
a.f.a.i.k. the "Jolly Roger" on banjo is actually Roger (Jim) McGuinn of Byrds fame, although why he is credited twice is amystery.. The title character of Bob Dylan's song "Mr. Tambourine Man" was probably inspired by the late Bruce Langhorne.

Thanks for your selection, Barry. Great choice. The moment I saw what you had chosen, my first thought was "That'll make Martin squeal"!

I’m a bit miffed actually as this was not the album I wanted to post, I written my thread the other day only to find the album wasn’t available for streaming . I think I’ll do a separate thread on it as I have just discovered it and is an early recording of two of my favourite artists .

Avoided Bob Dylan for most of his career. Never saw what others did, especially the adulation
Got to do me bit though
First impressions Like the music and the guitars. Reminiscent of Ry Cooder in places The little singing is not quite as awful as I remember it

Yes I felt the same as Mike above. I went in prepared for my ears to feel offended by Dylan's vocals.
Somehow they were only 'not that great'. And the music itself wasn't too terrible.
Will give another listen.

Love this album! All the Dylan albums have been on hand to me since about 1977. My favourite track is actually the first one on the album, the main title theme. I scored it full marks. Wondering if Tim knows it?

Wondering if Tim knows it? I do know it Chris, was always a bit meh about it to be honest, pleasant enough as background music, but I'm very nonplussed about movie soundtracks in general, so don't tend to listen to them. What stirs me about Dylan are his lyrics and him, so I need the full monty - I did actually start playing it recently but abandoned it . . . I'll give it another go

Played it a moment ago and made it to the end this time.
For me I find it a bit bland and instantly forgettable, nothing there to dislike but nothing to excite me either, kind of thing I might put on at a garden party when serving up a hog roast - so I'd still class it as I did previously, inoffensive background music.
I did enjoy the film mind you, but this just scrapes a 2.

It's just an average film soundtrack, I don't think our Bob put a lot of thought or effort into it really - just took the money with a grin and probably thinking 'thanks very much . . . . suckers!' Banjooooooooooooooooooooo
