open.qobuz.com/album/lxkh51vxxjqja Throughout the eighties, it sometimes seemed like I could not tune in radio station without hearing The Fixx. They always made car rides much more fun. As time passed they became less relevant while our music systems continued to improve. Their hook-laden brand of pop was appealing then so I recently cued up their Ultimate Collection to see how their music stood the test of time. Played back on the most recent iteration of my main system I found myself once again transFixxed. Give it a listen and see how it works for you. At their very best, the Fixx were one of the great singles bands of the new wave era. They often don't get credit for it because they were a little out of step with the times. They certainly weren't as dark as the legions of critically acclaimed post-punk bands like the Cure and Gang of Four, nor were they as lightly quirky as many of the early-MTV one-hit wonders or as fashionable as the new romantics. Instead, the Fixx picked up the album rock side of David Bowie, which meant that they were briefly in step with the times in the early '80s but then could carry on in the years immediately following new wave since they were just slightly more traditional than their peers. In both their new wave and post-new wave incarnations, the Fixx turned out a handful of terrific singles -- "Saved by Zero," "The Sign of Fire," "Are We Ourselves," "Secret Separation," and "One Thing Leads to Another," which sounds as startlingly fresh years after its recording as it did at the time. All of these songs are on the aptly titled Ultimate Collection. In addition to the hits, the 17-track compilation contains a number of lesser-known singles and album tracks, and while they're not quite as good as the classic singles, they're still solid songs in the same vein, and anyone who believes that the Fixx's five best singles are indeed classics should find plenty to enjoy here.

Thanks, Nick. I've never knowingly heard them but I might recognise their music from my post university days.

Ahhhhh... the eighties. The decade that music didn't so much ignore as run from, screaming. Joking aside, there was some good music in the eighties, like there was in every decade if one looks hard enough. U2, Springsteen, Bowie, Tom Petty, Squeeze, Dire Straits, and many more all had good albums out in the eighties, but I have to say that The Fixx never appeared on my radar, so I'll be interested to give it a go.

Sorry mates... All of a sudden I'm having problems with the original link. It appears that there are multiple versions so I'm changing the link to one which I hope works: open.qobuz.com/album/lxkh51vxxjqja

Will have to listen a time or two more Good example of 80s pop Clear, well made, no bad clichés, vocals ok maybe even good
Reminds me of Simple Minds, INXS, Propaganda and others whose names don't come to mind

Yes, it's quite decent pop and sounds very 1980s in its production style.
I don't find myself recognising any of their songs but perhaps that was because I spent most of that decade listening to different genres or older music.
Unlike much output from then, the sound quality is pretty good. There isn't much for me to hang onto here so I'll give it 3/5 for its unfamiliarity.

80s pop/rock really is not something I enjoy so this album is a challenge to me. Unfortunately I am going to give this a fair (this is me being kind)as it not this genre at it worse.

When I worked in a CNC shop at night back in 2011 with just one other guy we only had one music station to listen to and at some point 'One Thing Leads To Another' came on and it stopped me in my tracks. It sounded like the epitome of mood setting cool vibe guitar music.
Will be interesting to hear what the rest of their catalogue sounds like.

A middling "3" from me. Nothing particularly wrong with it, but to my ears, it's a bit "plastic," a bit "manufactured," and soulless.

I have a lot of 80's compilation albums and never heard these before, I see they are very American based and that is also reflected in the sound. Not quite UK 80's enough for me to go back frequently, but good to hear once.

The name of the band is familiar to me, but no matter how I tried I couldn't find a track on this or any of their albums that I could remember. I think that must say something about how much I like their music! I think Slinger sums it up for me. A middling "3" from me. Nothing particularly wrong with it, but to my ears, it's a bit " plastic," a bit " manufactured," and soulless. ...except for the score. I can't muster anything more than bottom marks, I'm afraid.
