Hold on to your hats, prog rockers among you, this one's a cracker! Mars The Bringer of War is part of The Planets, written in 1914-17 by British composer Gustav Holst. The Planets has been called a once-in-a-lifetime composition, without a doubt the pinnacle of his creative career. The music is fiery and war-like, as you might imagine, and has been used in many documentaries on the subject. It was also re-imagined by Isao Tomita in an electronic suite. I have chosen the recording by Paavo Jarvi and the Cincinnati SO on Telarc. This one blows the cobwebs away. open.qobuz.com/track/160146392 Please comment freely. I absolutely adore the analogue synth world of Tomita - all his albums are worth hearing.
