Not seeing kit?
Never considered that, it doesn't offend or distract me.

It doesn't bother me, either.
Mind you, I tend to listen with my eyes closed as it clears visual distractions.

Nice. And I see you pipe the music in from the next room!

I'm so far gone that I'll be playing tunes to keep me company while tinkering for an hour with gear to get it ready to play the same thing I've just been listening to on the cheap soundbar.
Though part of the enjoyment of the gear is hearing/appreciating that immediate contrast in sound quality.

I feel I fall between the two, assuming my categorisation is correct?
Audiophile - super dedicated to the kit and the sound, happy to pursue any avenue in the quest for the ultimate sound. Happy to listen to music the shows off the qualities of the system, rather than something that is good music. This may include simple arrangements with only a couple of instruments and albums that sound very samey and don’t actually get your pulse going. But do show the technical qualities of the kit.
Muso - dedicated to the music and massive passion for the music, artist. Happy to travel the world to hear the music live, happy to talk all night at a dinner party about how great a new album maybe. Also happy with a bootlegged copy of an album or tracks, even if they were recorded on a Walkman, just so they can enjoy the music and also tell the story at the next party.
So, yes some sweeping generalisations and on purpose to mark the extremes of each of the ranges.
I feel I am in the middle and I am more a Qualityphile!! (Yes I just made that up)
For my I have to like the music, it has to have passion and stir my emotion. Which may not be the last word in ultimate technical accuracy, but does need to be well recorded. This extends beyond just listening to an album, this covers any audio. For me if it is watching Sky news, formula 1, steaming Netflix/Disney/etc, watching an actual movie on a disc or listening to music. I want it in the best quality I can get.
This is the value I have used when building my system over the years. When I discover a new gadget or technique for getting more quality out of my music server, I then look at how I can actually apply that to my Apple TV or dare I say my sky box.
The sky box is a good example, I have had the internal clock replaced, the power supply and over 50 components replaced with higher quality than sky built it with. It then sits in supports with some nice weights on top, while being hooked up to the same power cables and conditioners as the rest of the system and same level of quality interconnects. Now that is straight out of the Audiophile playbook, but surly they would never allow a sky box in the same room as a precious two channel music system?
Then I recall when Prince played at the O2 in London and I went four times, just a year after planning a road trip around the west coast of America, timed to see Prince playing his residency in Las Vegas.
Maybe I am just in denial of it all and need to get some professional help!

I can listen to music I don't like but not for long - when checking out a new to me album or artist Certainly not testing out a system
My Freeview box and Tivo are on RDC cones and a Mana rack

Jealous much - I will always regret not taking my chance to see him ...

Also I wondered if that planned road trip on the west coast was able to happen.

Not seeing kit? Was the only way I was allowed the system.
What's that? Ah, another box. Why so many?

I need to go back to where it started. Music with a tranny (the old meaning of the word).
Parents all in one system. Especially Beatles 'Help,' and 'Hard Day's Night.' It was the music.
Later my brothers took the speakers out of the same system and put them in homemade speaker boxes. Lying on the floor with the speakers either side, blasting the likes of Led Zeppelin or The Who. (Believe that's where my hearing troubles stem from).
Was rather happy with my Sony Walkman, with flimsy headphones. Or later one speaker in the lounge. And even further on, upgrading speaker cable (@£2/m) from an electronics store.
In all cases, it was the music. The gear was the vehicle.
But now? Very interested in what the gear does. To the music.
So I must be a muso.
Although have managed some Martinesque changes in the last 18 months, but I'm pretty happy with what that has done to the music.

Also I wondered if that planned road trip on the west coast was able to happen. Yes it did and the irony was that after all that effort to see him in Vegas, he was then on our door step not long after. 😀
