For my prototype "upgrade" Musicmaster Len charged me few hundred I believe so that I would have no expectations, though around £1800 retail, in that price range nothing Grado has appealed, the Epoch is well out of my finite pension range, probably a great cartridge, buying it would curtail my other relatively expensive hobbies. All bought when I was working. Like, full bore Target shooting £0.90 every time I pull the trigger + hundreds in club & range fees + diesel for the 100 mile round Tripp. My car history of owning & driving is extensive blur, cars have cost a lot more than HiFi over the years. with Fishing sea & fresh water costing a lot as well. Something had to give so I'm longer involved with motorbikes to buy bikes I have ridden not owned, would cost a fortune just reminiscing this is a selection of what I can remember riding. like pre unit T120 Bonneville's, Tritons, HRD Vincent Lightening spec Shadow, BSA Spitfire & Gold Flash, Triumph Speed Twin sprung hub (never fell off) & Velocette Venom Thruxton, 1960's my first 100mph on a bike was on a Westlake 750cc conversion Bonneville. daytona600 I have heard some lovely cartridges all out of my current price range, since retiring I do not hear as many system/cartridges as I once did, the Hanna ML etc I can live with & is just within my price range.

It hit me that it's all money down the drain Gosh, none of my spend on the hi-fi system is 'money down the drain'. It's most else in life that is transient and lost money, my system is the best spent money of all.

Like, full bore Target shooting £0.90 every time I pull the trigger + hundreds in club & range fees + diesel for the 100 mile round Tripp. Excellent - what kind of rifles / calibre? Mostly .308 (not 7.62) my favourite toy was bought from monies left by my dad sort of in memoriam. I looked for a gun smith who had won championships with a gun of his own making. Dave Wylde then at SYSS now proprietor of Valkyrie Rifles was suggested. The rifle is an American Surgeon short action, with built in 20 deg picatinny rail & fluted bolt, British 23" 1 in 12 twist fluted Border barrel with match chamber by Dave, American Rifle Basic's trigger, Australian Wild Dog carbon fibre thumbhole stock modified by Dave to take Accuracy International mags plus a rear mono pod, it also has Israeli Arms push button sling mount sockets (fitted by me). T8 over barrel silencer/moderator, all Duracoated. Harris SRB bipod, on top Nightforce mounts honed by Dave when fitting the Nightforce NSX 5.5-22 x 56 scope, accuracy better than 1/4 MOA, happiest with 175G Sierra match Kings at average 2761 fps. My shooting mentor who I worked with at the Houses of Parliament he is 20 years younger and half my weight a multiple British, European & World 9mm pistol champion, Heckler and Koch sniper champion & sniper instructor his wife ain't a bad shot either. He uses mostly an Accuracy International .308 AE takes 20 round mags + other modifications both rifles are more accurate than me, they make up for my deficiencies, I can only re-load twice before having to re-size the cartridge the AI just fires anything thrown at it.

I think the only thing will be cosmetic. I might make swanky / exotic HW stands for the little horns and tweeters. Refurb the mid bass horns a bit. Won't sound any different.. I will be also make myself a Gunmetal / Ebony circa 1.3kgs record puck / weight. I've made several of them for other folk, it's time I had one for myself🙂 Merry Christmas / God Jul (we've had most of it already)

It machines very nicely, much like other brass-like alloys.

Maybe be by the end of April, when my current alterations have run-in. After ten years-plus, I will look at changing my speaker cable, I mean look at this stage.

easy upgrade for 2023
i think i had a couple of disrupting amateurs buzzing my wi-fi. turned off my SSID (service set identifier) and wi-fi signal went to 100%ps - new devices will have to fully sign-in

Hiding SSID is one good security move, but it's a bugger to join certain devices to the wi-fi.

My first goal is to extract the maximum performance from my new power amp. I'll be cautiously venturing into the hinterland of external clocks and grounding boxes. I may / may not acquire a new DAC. Ah yes... "The New Amplifier". The Scarlet Pimpernel of the TAS Threads section. It is real then? Not just the illusionary product of perhaps a suspect past it's best Melton Mowbray pork pie? I gave up on that one many moons ago. Probably too heavy to mention.

There is one component I'll have my eye on: the Uptone EtherREGEN Gen2 when it releases around February 2023. If it does what John Swenson promises (reduced jitter and an improved external sine to squarewave clock converter) then I'll be placing my order for one. Maybe also another two QA grounding boxes to have one on each vital digital component.I didn't mention wanting another power supply for the 1st clock above but I mentioned it elsewhere. I now have a Zero Zone 01-A powering the 1st AfterDark clock. I was also naughty and bought a Harmonic Technology Digital Copper III clock cable and split it into two for my clocks. I have two more Quartz Acoustic grounding boxes installed. I would like one more to replace the Aucharm XL on the P10 regenerator. I'm on the wait-list for ordering an EtherREGEN Gen 2 reclocker/switch when it becomes available. That's it.

Changed the whole streaming front end and sampling speed of my DSP pre instead!

I have the Audio GD DI-20HE DDC and LHY OCK-01 external clock at Coherent for some work. Get those back and in. Have an Audience AU24Sx AES/EBU arriving in January. And getting my AU24Sx RCA cable, SGS-1 grounding box and BR Big Pads back from my cousin. Set up the Intel Nuc with Roon. Then new? Nothing major now... An LPS for the network switch. Oscillating between Plixir Elite and the Zero Zone 01-A supercap LPS. Perhaps a new wifi router. Sort out the plug board situation. Puritan is just a little too long. Another set of BR Big Pads. Six months on, and a few things have changed. LHY clock sent back for a partial refund. Audio GD DI-20HE DDC back from Tony. Audience AU24Sx AES/EBU arrived. Plixir Dual Elite LPS bought for switch and modem, and another Plixir Elite for second switch. And got their Statement DC cables. Found a cheap set of BR Big Pads for sale in New York. A used pair of Sound Anchors speaker stands. A Teddy Pardo MiniTeddy LPS for my streamer. Tomorrow buying a set of Stack Audio Auva speaker isolators. And then I start saving for a Puritan PSM156. If I pull it off, that will make it a bloody good year audio wise.

I love the curved ball life throws sometimes. We might sit down after Xmas dinner and ponder 'what will be' next year.
Rarely works out like that..
I had no plans for a Streamer shootout and reclocker with galv isolation implementation, or optic lan bridge. Let alone the current time alignment setup experiments.
Wonder what the next 6 months will bring? 🙂

All done with an extra Neotech NEVD-2001 silver cable to supplement the Harmonic Technology clock cables. One extra Quartz Acoustic grounding box was added. An unexpected but very worthwhile swap from a Coherent 6D balanced to Coherent 6D Gen2 single-ended cable. Hoping to order an EtherREGEN Gen2 when it's released soon.

I've got three main things I want to try this year -
- fibre optic - grounding box - external clock for my U18
Apart from that it's going to be a few tweaks, unless I decide to get a new DAC ...
