Welcome along, sounds like you got a bargain.
My speakers have an Audax 32mm tweeter and it seems very good, not harsh at all.

Trying to research IAS, I found your own posts on the WAM. I can't find much about them although I do vaguely remember the name.

Seem to remember they did a number of speaker kits.
Beaulieu was one model, I think. Not sure of the spelling.

I lived and worked in Southampton between 1976 and 1980.
I attended the various hifi shows at local hotels by the likes of Hamilton Electronics (London Road) and Hampshire Audio (Chandlers Ford).
Integrated Audio Systems (I.A.S.) were based in Portswood, where they had a small manufacturing facility. I got to know the two partners, David Hall and Alan Willis, very well.
I had Linn Isobarik DMS speakers at the time, with the ubiquitous LP12/Syrinx/Supex front end and Meridian amplification.
Dave and Alan brought round a pair of their new "Beauleigh" speakers, which I remember being impressed with at the time!

Welcome to TAS.
I was reading something about IAS a while back, but cannot remember where or why now. I'm sure it will come to me though.

I heard a pair through my Renaisance RA01 300b moo valve amps when I was getting them serviced. The Amp manufacturer had used the IAS speakers for years for testing and demos along with a pair of Wilson Benesch ARCs, the IAS sounded really good.

Lovely speaker IAS, I first heard a pair at Renaissance audio when getting an amplifier fettled, they had used them as demo speakers for years along with a pair of Wilson Benesch speakers.

Further to my previous post about getting to know David Hall and the late Alan Willis of IAS, during my days in Southampton in the late 70's. I recently hosted my second HiFiWigwam Bake-off of 2023 and one of the sixteen attendees was a chap named Carl Beckwith, who goes by the monicker "britishcomposers" on the Wam. I got chatting to Carl and he has been an admirer of the IAS Beaulieu design since their debut at a national hifi show in 1980. So much so, that, in addition to having acquired an original pair in mint condition, he has gone to extraordinary lengths to revive the design, going as far as obtaining David Hall's blessing to manufacture and bring the design fully up to date, in the guise of the IAS Beaulieu 40R, which he has actively marketed and brought to the market, as built-to-order loudspeaker. Carl demonstrated the Beaulieu 40R at the recent Staveton Park Hotel hifi show. Following our chat at my home, he invited me for a days music listening at his Shaftsbury home, where I made the journey, last Monday. The IAS Beaulieu 40R sticks faithfully to David Hall's original dimensions and design of a quarter wave horn-loaded speaker, albeit that the crossover is now housed in it's own enclosure in the base of the bespoke stand and the midrange and tweeters have been changed to a SEAS and Accuton. The 8" Volt bass driver remains and the cabinet is rigorously braced and manufactured and assembled in the UK. Having listened to the Beaulieu 40R playing music, it is a formidable large stand-mount with a clean, well extended bass performance. Carl is to be congratulated on his efforts in reviving what has been referred to as a "cult classic" from the 1970's. There is an incredible amount of information about the original design, the modern update as well as a YouTube interview by Steve Harris of HiFi News fame, featuring Carl and David Hall. Well worth watching if you want to learn about this capable British loudspeaker. image0 by , on Flickr
