I was given my Transcriptors built Michel badged Hydraulic Reference Turntable as a present in 1971/1972 it had an SME 2 & Shure V15 III over the years other arms & cartridges.
Today it sports a Hadcock Silver plus & Musicmaker cartridge. Throughout it has provided a very stable platform with clean deep bass mids & treble, true it has had some minor but significant modifications ie Duralumin arm base, oak cone feet, DC power, PTFE platter pads. It however looks identical to the day it was made as a futuristic tour de force that famously appeared in a Clockwork Orange because of it's looks.
My Hydraulic Reference has surprised friends with it's sonic quality, some owners of well known critically acclaimed TT's.

I always wanted one, I stupidly passed on one with and SME arm and original cleaning brush, I saw at a local specialist for £650 They can't be seen in my avatar, it has the sweep arm, brush cleaner & the Design Council triangular logo on the right front. Relating to A clockwork Orange the HR was never actually played in the film the Beethoven was purported to be played on a DG mini cassette & player only designed for speech Ie it was a studio prop, however Philip Stone who played "Pa", the father of Alex DeLarge, in A Clockwork Orange & Zogi, the High Priest in Flash Gordon & several other classics, was a neighbour apparently most of the crew & cast were fascinated by the HR a few were bought as a result. I also have the 1970's/80's Michell larger main bearing assembly and early Michell record clamp with strobe markings from the laminated glass platter I used until fitting PTFE pads to the platter supports, apparently David Gammon the designer of the HR was dissuaded from using harder pads fitting foam to assuage fears of record damage/slipping, I have not had any marks or slippage since fitting them. Due to my stupidity/lack of foresight I never bought the original cartridge scales for a full house.
