Reminds me of that advert that used to be on telly. Daddy or chips.
If you could only have one which would it be ? Beatles or Stones ?

Beatles. The Stones did some great stuff, but...well...it's The Beatles!

The Beatles for me, which is not to say I didn't appreciate The Stones too.

I don't really go a great deal on either, although both had some great songs.
On balance, and for their sheer songwriting skills and influence, I'd have to give it to The Beatles.

Tricky, but on balance The Beatles. The Stones produced some great songs and they were (and probably still are) fabulous live. However, they lacked the inventiveness of The Beatles. A great band yes, but if they had never existed nothing much would have changed, whereas with The Beatles, their influence touched many of their contemporaries (and those that came after) and opened up the music scene of their day.

This speaks to how influential The Beatles have been. Timeless song, superb performance.

I'll vote for the Stones just because I've heard songs from them in passing a few times that floored me (Gimme Shelter, Brown Sugar, Sympathy For The Devil, I Can't Get No Satisfaction, Wild Horses, Honky Tonk Woman, Time Is On My Side) and the covers I've heard of those tracks were incredible.
Though I do know that The Beatles were the biggest thing ever and inspired hundreds of bands.

I voted for the underdog (Stones). Mainly because I tend to dislike the early Beatles output which I find too flowery and effeminate. By the time of Rubber Soul my view has swung completely the other way (love it). In contrast I much prefer the early output from the stones.
The poll is very close now .

This Beatles vs Stones discussion is really old hat! I remember my maths teacher in the 80-ies telling us about the days when he identified himself as a hardcore Stones boy but later had to admit the Beatles had more artistic merit. It seems like to stem from a period where people identified with the image of a certain band (rough Stones vs. smooth Beatles?) like supporting a football team. It's either one or the other and you couldn't be into both. They are both great bands but I voted for the Beatles because I recognize most of their album covers, also have more memories from the 70-ies, and own some of their CDs. The only Stones album cover that I recognized was "Tattoo You". I own the following Stones compilation album: "Singles Collection: The London Years" which I enjoy listening to regularly but it never crossed my mind to dive into their album collection.

Media have to have a fight
Beatles or Stones - Beatles, but I can listen to the Stones
Hendrix or Clapton - both
Blur or Oasis - Blur - as Oasis are awful

My favourite run of Stones albums, from '68 to '73:
Beggars Banquet (1968) Let It Bleed (1969) Sticky Fingers (1971) Exile on Main St. (1972) Goats Head Soup (1973)
There were other good Stones albums, and good Stones songs, but nothing touches those 5 albums in a row for me. I was aged 14 to 19 when they came out, which I gues is a pretty impressionable time for any young music fan. None of them dulled my love of the Beatles though, and I never really entered into the whole Beatles vs Srones thing until much later. Now I believe I can make an informed decision, and the answer is musical, and historical, as opposed to "tribal," which it would have been at the time.
A bit like Ringo in A Hard Day's NIght, when he was asked, "Are you a 'Mod' or a 'Rocker'?" and he answered "Er, No, I'm a 'Mocker'" I was a fan of 'The Beans', or perhaps the 'The Stotles', and I still am.
