Only those with the most sophisticated of tastes can enjoy GnR and Palestrina ... As a junior in catering at a private members club in Fulham, London with 44 acres of land & a house built in 1760, whilst eavesdropping after being introduced to the new club chairman a retired general said "John seems like a nice lad" the club secretary said "Yes he is & with a taste for the finer things in life" some years later after rigorous training inc. a wine tasting every week for 10 years I became The Head Waiter at 24 the youngest I know of, the Royal Family were regular visitors. I left some years later.

Now Joolz are you suggeting the gentleman is a Guardian reader per say? I rarely read News papers, my father was "in the print" I remember late 60's dropping him off in Fleet Street doing a Saturday night's work on a news paper, seeing reporters I recognised go into the Cheshire Cheese or The Wig & Pen pubs the following day in print they were purporting to be 300 miles away according to their copy. At the Palace of Westminster (Houses of Parliament) I used to use the Press Canteen surprisingly the only word I trusted implicitly was that of the political reporter of the Morning Star. For a while the press used to take the pi*s out of The men in tights (officers of the house like Black Rod) just outside the press canteen there was/is on a staircase landing a framed picture of The Chairman of the Press lobby & others in tights, dated 1936 titled Men in Tights. The BBC or any TV channel can no longer be trusted to be unbiased either reading between the lines used to be required now it's through, above & below the lines.

I used to enjoy investing En Primeur and did one of the WSET qualifications which was most enjoyable; I really got into tasting but didn't take it any further. Nowadays I'm just a very modest consumer of wine but have become rather obsessed with Riesling, mainly of Germanic origin. That reminds me, I must buy some tomorrow ...

Whilst I'm told that I speak well a sort of old school BBC English it would be a mistake to think of me as a gentleman. My hobbies have also been diverse.

The Churchill restaurant at Westminster sold a magnificent inexpensive Clos de L'Hermitage. Now I'm on a pension usually for my wife and I a good prosecco goes with first, mains & desert though Malbec with steak unfortunately Barolo is too expensive these days. The contributors on this forum are among the most erudite I have encountered loving this forum.

I enjoy Alsace Gewürztraminer, also their Pinot Gris and Riesling.
Now I have never tried a white Chateauneuf - will definitely look out for a bottle and report back on tasting.

New Zealand wines are fabulous, especially our white wines.
Unfortunately I gave up alcohol on my return from the UK in May 2019. Really miss the aroma of a good Sauvignon.

Welcome. Have a nice relaxing stroll around the place and join in wherever and whenever the fancy takes you. What sort of music are you into? My taste is eclectic growing through the beginning of rock & roll ie Buddy Holly, Elvis etc. Had an uncle who played on grandma's piano, Rachmaninov, Tchaikovsky & List whilst I sat watching him he was taught by my Great Grandmother who trained as a concert pianist however at the turn of the 20th century she only played at at a kinema Victorian/Edwardian sensibilities it was not ladylike to travel about. Living 1/2 mile from the Kings Road Chelsea in the 60's Beatles & Stones et alii, subsequently in no particular order Floyd, ELO, Santana, Stevie Wonder. Emerson Lake & Palmer Whilst my children individually lay in their bouncer between the Quad 57's listening/chilling to Chopin, Mahler, Simon & Garfunkel, Beethoven, William Boyce, William Byrd, Plain Chant, Palestrina, Benjamin Britten. Then as they grew gave me Gun's & Roses, a son in law Prodigy laterly my much younger son who married last week deadmau5 he stayed with us the night before his wedding bringing a deadmau5 double CD inspiring me to buy While(1<2) which until some recent valve changes my system (Quads) could not do justice now without subwoofers as Peter Walker said they will do bass with the right amplifier. An Aunt who was born & grew up in India her father was a senior with the Indian railway ie. they had their own train. She gave me an interest in Indian music I love Tabla, Sarod, Sitar, Mridangam however whilst my multilingual aunt loved the singing I do not, indeed it grates. MY long-winded answer is but a fraction I missed Gregorian Chant, Dave Dee Dozy Mick & Tich & Vivaldi, Organ music plus many others though not much in the last 10 years Thanks for the answer. Your tastes seem run the same sort of musical gamut as mine, Palestrina to Pink Floyd ...Beatles to Bruckner ...Hawkwind to Hildegard von Bingen? I've even been known to play a bit of Stormzy. I'm more about the music than the medium though, so no great hi-fi history, but loads of good music.

White CDP is rare I have had off licence staff tell me it does not exist even though I have drunk it for 50 years. Try buying my favorite Cerbois VSOP Bas ARMAGNAC even harder to find.
