What the heck is up with selling used gear?
I have a reasonable idea of how much my audio components are worth. With hifishark, it makes it even easier.
But whenever I list items, the price usually is required to tumble multiple times for it to sell. Is that the same in the Northern Hemisphere?

Yup, same here in Scotland/UK. People seem to want something for nothing these days. There's been a lot of uncertainty in this country, particularly over the last few years and things like Brexit, and recently the war in Ukraine, haven't helped matters. The market for 'luxury' goods like hifi has certainly contracted somewhat.

I would suggest that the audio equipment market will be awash with kit from hence forward, its been brewing for a while, but fuel prices & the cost of living are effecting MANY other items.
The usual dealer suspects will be offering 'extra special trade in deals'. A lot of manufacturers have new product launches coming up as well so it should prove interesting.

People are struggling this side too. No wage increases, inflation/cost of living/petrol prices, and mortgage rates have jumped. House prices have gone from an unsustainable high, plummeted in the last 9 months but still too expensive for people.
Some of the audio items in such a small market, and most don't know what it is/what it does.

I'm getting zero interest for the Burson buffer I have for sale, despite its rarity.

Can take a long time to sell gear I've sold over a year after initial listing, might even have been two
You only need one buyer, just got to find them
False starts aplenty from dead cert buyers that change their mind or go quiet

I've getting rid of things I should have sold years ago. Accumulated amps, Dacs, headphones, portable amps, USB/SPIDF converters, tone arms. Still have four amps to offload. Gear sold so far has paid for the DDC.

I sold a wifi extender for £0.25 And a wide angle lens for £0.50
Just good to get some things out of the house, and it's going to be reused.

Yes I'm having a clear out too. Got a lot of camera gear to shift which will take some time.
In terms of hifi popular items will sell very quickly and at a decent price but anything else could take time, much patience will be required. I don't think people are willing to take a punt on something they aren't sure about like in the past.

It is also a good time to buy if you look at it from the other side. if you look at the bay and auction listings rather than buy it now that is. the more under the radar stuff goes for less than it 'should'. the popular flavour of the month items either dont sell for the expected going rate but have millions of watchers, or sell if priced for a bit less. People still want, and lets face it, hifi gear is a want and not a need. I need to spend 150 quid on the weekly shop, i dont need to spend 150 quid on an obscure cartridge from 1979. Conversely the buy it now prices of flavour of the month stuff or old faithfuls such as 401s and lp12s is inflated because people are feeling the pinch and want the absolute maximum for what they are selling. There is more overpriced old toss for sale now than there was 12 months ago. The market is there for the shrewed who have some money to burn, i watched a ratty trio l07d sell for 1500 quid a few weeks ago that 12 months ago would have sold for twice that in the condition it was in.
I should gave a clearout, ive got turntables arms and carts coming out of my ears, but i wont get what they are worth because of the economic climate. So for now ill keep hold of them until the market stabilises some and the prices of things start to creep back towards the more normal numbers.
Ive bought a couple of bits and pieces for well under what i expected them to sell for, this is kind of betting on the market rebounding somewhat if and when inflation starts to creep down and folk have abit of cash to spend again. Long game. We will see.

Have figured out a way to sell my used kit quicker. List it way lower (on auction) than it's worth.
Have recently done this with headphones, Dacs, amps, fuses, cables. Although I don't get as much, items sell and get moved on.

I’ve nearly always had trouble selling things on the used market and end up letting things go for less than I think they are reasonably worth.

E-bay is full of wankers wanting something for nothing and awash low ball turd nurds/scammers etc. Currently the used market is pretty stagnet at the sub £4K areas and will only get worse in the next 6 moths as people feel the economic pinch bite harder. This has always been the case. Remember 2008 crash very well, took over 3 years to recover the sub £5k market area
