Yes like it's a different DAC

I have an update on my using the LAN input on the R26. First of all I apologise for taking everyone on my journey with my sorting out the LAN / streamer on R26.
I can now finally say that even the unofficial streamer 1.42 firmware is rock solid. The instability with my local files (DLNA) was caused by my using a WiFi extender for the DLNA server and having the R26 on the main network. It should be possible to resolve this and I certainly improved stability but in the end I capitulated…I now have an old laptop in the listening room on the main network serving my files. There are no stability issues. Qobuz is now fine too, even this got messed up with the subnet at times as sometimes it couldn’t see the renderer due to bubble sometimes connecting to the subnet.

I’ve been living with the improving sound of the R26 for quite a while…it keeps getting better as I optimise the setup. Of course the LB clock, its PS and clock cable are vitally important also, Colin Wonfor’s pre/power too are a massive factor.
Running the LAN streamer on the R26 and NOS mode are critical too as is fibre optic isolation and the Bastanis grounding box.
My Bastanis Sagamatha OBs and Vic’s bass setup were already astounding. If I go back a few years to my previous Bastanis with 300Bs I had an astounding sound with vocals and jazz. I’ve finally exceeded my previous elixir. Not only this but the sound now works for anything from Tracy Chapman to LED Zep III. I can reach out and touch the band, it’s so full of life. I could say more but that’s enough for now.
Happy, happy, happy 😀🍾

Great to heat Clive It all pays off the R26 really responds well to all those tweaks, it becomes a different DAC

Hi, I'm having an intermittent problem with my Gustard R26, just wanted to check in and see in anybody else has experienced this. I've currently got the Leo Bodnar external clock connected up. Occasionally I'll be listening, and notice the sound has gone thicker and not as resolved. When I switch between external and internal clock the sound doesn't change, and when I unplug the bnc cable, it keeps playing music. I'm guessing it's just automatically switched to internal, even though the display says external is in use. If I power off the unit and set it back up, half the time it does register the external connection, as I can hear the sound upgrade, but not always, so it's a bit trial and error to get it working again. Is this something anybody else has dealt with, feels like maybe I have a defective unit.

Other factors the LB itself.. lt will be trial and error l'm afraid.

When I switch between external and internal clock the sound doesn't change Sounds like it could be a clock sync issue. Is it set to exactly 10MHz? Cable good, tried another?

It's all been a bit quiet on here for a bit.
Just a,quick update to report, today l removed the internal BNC cable completely, and direct feed my Multiflex 141 cable with a Amphenol BNC to MXC adapter Part no 242204.
l have to thank Rodders for this, but l can say it brings a big lift in sound quality, l can use all the usual phrases, but l can say, at present this is best my set up has sounded, and for myself that is some statement.

It might be worth those with the x26 trying out

It might be worth those with the x26 trying out Could be well worth a punt,it was acting as a definite bottleneck for the clock input.

I need to get myself some Multiflex 141 and make up a MXC to BNC cable or BNC to BNC with adapter. LMR400 isn’t suitable for being internally connected. Any suggestion for what’s a good length for the internal connection option? 0.75m? I’d go to take the DAC to bits to measure up but I’m have trouble walking currently, I should improve in a few days. Should I be looking at SMB connectors rather than MXC?

It might be worth those with the x26 trying out I'll probably look into doing this John, when I have the time. Decorating atm.

There's a few different methods Clive, because l already had BNC to BNC made up and couldn't be bothered resolder,it made sense just to purchase the MXC adapter. You can pick Multiflex 141,just goggle it,sold by the metre. MXC is such a small size, you will probably have to go the adapter route,l had the slightly enlarge the 10Mhz hole,by 2mm so l could fit my cable though,l just put a clamp you the cable,to reduce the chance of the cable being tugged off the board. As l have said it's all reversible Clive, and for myself, a noticeable step up

As l have said it's all reversible Clive, and for myself, a noticeable step up Thanks Damien. I’ve indeed found a couple of sites for the raw cable by the metre. Is my understanding correct that MXC is the same connection as SMB, it just that SMB is larger externally? I’m thinking that as I’ll attach my own connectors then SMB might be easier assuming there’s room for SMB around the socket. Is the internal Gustard cable SMB or MXC?

It's MXC on the board Clive.

It's MXC on the board Clive. Yeah, I’ve checked a few more sites, the original one a I looked at had ambiguous wording giving the impression the SMB and MCX sockets were the same and it was only the external dimensions of the plug where the differences were. Sorted now, thanks.

So hopefully you read, l can recommend the tail lead using TFLEX 405 for R26. Something l hadn't mentioned, is that l add a long term issue with the R26 LAN working, and not being able to reflash. Turns out that although my R26 was working, the SDcard was corrupt, l replaced it, and added V1.42 software.
l really wished l had done this sooner, as used in conjunction with my FMC, the sound quality is best l have ever experienced, and halted my thinking of purchasing a Streamer.

Are there any former R26 owners who have switched to an A26 because they preferred its sound? I would be very grateful if you could elaborate on the reasons for that change.
Thank you
