This thread is for posting audio or video of you playing an instrument. Don't be shy, Baldrick wasn't with his expert playing of the triangle Learning to play an instrument is such a rewarding thing to do. It follows you through life and the more you put in the more you get out. I started learning the drums at the grand old age of 16. One of my mates at school had started a band and persuaded me to have a go on the drums in the school music room one rainy lunchtime. Cue a lifetime's obsession and a thousand gigs later I have many wonderful memories of playing for fun and at one point it was my living. Anyway, just posted some drum beat ideas on hfs a while back and got nothing but tumbleweed in response. Maybe I will get kore response here (or maybe not). Thing is when coming up (Paul Mc artney song) with drums on their own, you have to make it interesting otherwise its just another boring boom boom cha. Have a listen to this one I recorded on a crappy camera.

Interesting. I can't 'visualise' (auralise?) the song to see how the rapid 'cascade' works with it, but I'll look it up (or do you have a link handy).
I started to re-learn piano a while back (I had lessons between 6 and 17, but was never a 'natural) with the intention of trying to lear the accordion (which may have been a tad ambitious). The lock-down in Germany seemed like the perfect opportunity, but business went crazy and so all free time evaporated. I must re-re-start!

There is no song to go with it (yet) although my bass player friend claims he has come up with something to go with it. Songs often start with a drum idea because the rest of the band are too lazy. Often they just need a bit of inspiration.

I don't play, but I can and do admire anyone who can play an instrument.
I know Khruangbin often start their song composition by laying down the drum beat.

Funnily enough, just a couple of weeks ago, I decided to open my guitar case again for the first time in many years, with the intention of making a serious attempt at learning to use it properly. What I learned was that I retained a memory of how to hold it, but that's about it! It's slowly coming back, but the thing that really made the difference was that last night I gave myself a drum loop to play along with. I am not what Frank Zappa described as a 'highly rhythmic individual'(!), so this provided the foundation that I needed and I spent well over an hour playing something that almost sounded not unadjacent to music. I have to say that I was rather amazed, not to mention encouraged to continue. As a bonus, my fingers don't hurt too much either! I guess when you are building anything, it's best to start with the foundations and that's what drummers provide.

I have known plenty of bedroom musicians who never or rarely play with others. Nothing wrong with that but put them in a band situation and they struggle. Over playing was the tell tale sign. Listening to others in a band is a skill in itself and can only be gotten through the experience of playing with others. Unless of course you are in a cover / tribute band that tries to exactly replicate the record.
I was in a quite successful Queen tribute band around year 2000 where you would get a Paddington hard stare from the singer (band leader) if you made a mistake or played something not on the record. I could take or leave Queen prior to joining but developed a passionate hatred for them by ted time I left four years later. Can't listen to them now.

I haven't played the guitar in years now. Lost all interest. I do have a recording (on cassette), from the early 90s of a Swedish band we were in. Marie was keyboards and backing vocals. Used to lug her Yamaha DX7 keyboard around!
I doubt the tape would even play now! Not sure we have any means of playing it even. Same with video tapes..
Not going to even try to digitise it / put it up here, so you'll have to imagine🙂

Here's another tor ya. I came up with this whilst trying to get my left hand better. As a right handed person the right is obviously the faster / better side. Making the left do more work is the best way to getting it faster/ more accomplished.

Village festival on Saturday to raise funds for the sports club. We played for free beer so made the most of it - was rather tiddled when I staggered home.
Here's a clip from WhatsApp so a bit compressed.

Thanks, I enjoyed that! Did I detect your new 'signature riff' at the very start?

Thanks, I enjoyed that! Did I detect your new 'signature riff' at the very start? Thanks. Yes, a bit of a solo tagged on the beginning. The last two times we did this festival I did a solo using Led Zep Moby Dick. Couldn’t be bothered this year and wanted to spare people from the nine minute solo
