John, a couple of questions about the IFI Zen Streamer; What's the boot up time from off, to connected, ready to play? Is there a shut down procedure (like RPi), or do you just turn it off when you need to switch it off? Do you use it with Spotify, Tidal or Qobuz (Mconnect? Bubble?)? Its about 5 to 10 seconds to boot up You can shut down from the app or front panel I use bubble but both work fine. Best to use switch at the back and just use whatever mode you using for the best sound quality. Enternet is simple to use but WiFi can be buggy www.head-fi.org/threads/ifi-zen-stream-setup-tips-tricks.961425/Thanks John. Ethernet all the way. I've had a play with Bubble UPnP and quite like it🙂

BubbleUPnP is an excellent streaming/files controller and gets regular feature updates and bug fixes.

I wonder if I could get an I2S feed out of the Zen? Carving knife at the ready 🙂
Would probably be pre-IFI purifier circuit though, defeating the object.

The zen stream outputs are excellent An optical converter is worth adding to the ethernet cable

Being curious about it, I've got a loaner coming to try.

Have you got a recommendation on the optical converter?

This is a good video that talks you through it. Also watch his DAC and speaker builds

Thanks John, that was very informative.
🙂 As I have 2 x 5v regulated power supplies at the ready.
Ditto with 12v for the Zen..

If, then, you ever buy equipment with SFP cages (I have an EtherREGEN at one end, the Sonore Signature Rendu SE the other), you can use optical SFPs and dispense with the separate converters.
Be sure to match the fibre optic cable to the converters: single-mode and multi-mode both come with LC connectors but will work poorly with the wrong converters.
