Wow - are these types of post here or on other forums? No, the rules are mostly for my benefit, I just thought I'd share my working out in the margins. Well in that case anyone who doesn't like The Mars Volta has no musical taste whatsoever!

I've been playing this quite a bit over thee last few days. As predicted, I like it quite a lot. I can see how people might find it hard to penetrate due to its frenzied feel. And how others might hate it, but it's quite a unique record and takes the band's first album (which was remarkable in its own right) and goes even further. Love it - 4/5.

Pleased you enjoyed it, the next Amputechture I quite like, but I would recommend 'The Bedlam In Goliath' I find its the most interesting although a bit challenging, as usual you need to understand the story behind it to fully get it.

Well I've give it a couple more tries but my listening these days is for quieter and not too complicated music and I just can't get my brain to unravel this album . Difficult to vote on it , I probably would have liked this back in 2005 so I'll go 3/5 .

Just tried again, but I'm going to stick with my original impression: truly bloody awful! Sorry, despite being a fan of discordant jazz, bands like Blurt and a fair bit of punk, this had nothing in it for me - a pointless mess.
